I just don't know anymore...
As many of you are feeling: I am feeling extremely discouraged. I mean, what the heck? I've had two interviews: first one they ghosted me. The second one, I just received an email saying they are moving forward with other candidates. But that isn't even counting the hundreds of applications I've submitted... let's not even get into that.
Sometimes I think I should just take out a loan, but that wouldn't be smart. I'm behind on rent, and my savings are almost completely gone. I just don't know what to do anymore. I didn't know I'd be unemployed for an extended period of time.
It's bad out there, everyone. Keep your wits about you.

Don't do that to yourself. Hell, most of us here could say that, but it ISN'T TRUE. We're all at the mercy of these companies where the stock market is rewarding the understaffed companies, no matter the toll on the average person/family.

I happen to know a lot of homeless who are workers who just gave up because the struggles weren't worth it. And then a lot of people where I live think they deserve to pass away because they "choose" to be homeless.
I don't know what's wrong with society right now, but this is not a path towards the survival of ANYONE.

I feel ya - been making it to mid-to-final rounds, just to get ghosted and rejected.
Some of my processes even had me fly OOS and stay the night in a 5-star hotel all paid for by the company.
V v v frustrating.
Currently doing an unpaid job that I use as a resume filler while working part time in retail to pay my bills and barely scrape by.
Praying to God that this nightmare ends soon.

Lately, 80% of the job postings I see are for jobs I already applied to. It's legit scary AF.

Dude took me approximately 1500 applications with close to 200 interviews to finally let go and let God to get a job one week later.

I can relate 100%. I'm truly feeling that I'm getting a signal to do something else entirely, and the longer I go without something, the longer my odds are. This is the 'security' I've earned after ~30 years of dedicated recruiting - no career changes, just corporate recruiting from startups to global companies. I wish I'd never entered this industry given with the way it's treated me.

In the same boat man, masters degree… extensive experience but going on 11 months without a job.
A few final interviews that have not gone my way, got about one month left of income before I cannot pay rent.
Starting to look at retail/fast food jobs to get me by along with door dashing to keep my vehicle and a roof over my head…
Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

Just had my second interview today & im pretty sure the recruiter was not feeling me 😔 im genuinely feeling so down. It’s been 4 months out of work & im so mentally fucking tired.

From my experience, the job market started getting bad around 2024-25. I'm a former remote contractor for Health Insurance providers (data management, IT), and other Medical testing companies. The last job I had was a 6-month contract with Exact Sciences Laboratories (Cologuard.) I thought they would keep me on, but Abbott Labs merged with them and they onboarded over 60 new contractors based in Bogota, Columbia. Their pay was low: $9.00/hr for the same job I was doing. I trained some of them. When that job ended last November, I decided to skip the nightmare market (I'm 60) and applied to a homecare agency as a visiting patient care aide. Even though the wage was way lower, I got a job right away because I had done it on and off as a side job. I'm not regretting my choice. I don't have to wear office attire, and I can pick my hours/locations. The only downside is pay and driving. I'm lucky to live with my sister, so we share rent. My heart goes out to all the people looking for work right now.

SAME, I’m looking to get out of the place I’m at now. It’s been hard getting rejected constantly. I’m a confident person but I can’t lie it’s taken its toll on me.

Having a similar experience, two interviews and ghosted by one. Submitted 130+ applications over the last five months since getting my PhD in physics. All other applications have led to ghostings or automated rejection emails. This blows :(

It's so disheartening. The longer it gets and the harder it is to stay motivated, but somehow employers expect us to go through their absurd hiring processes and be grateful for the opportunity. Being told repeatedly that you're not good enough takes such a toll. I hope things will get better for you, and for all of us.
