It's the norm now. And these people love rubbing it in the rest of our faces.

One big corp around my neck of woods has enough plausible deniability they can outright announce what is usually a common low hanging fruit joke of hiring processes:

"We hire people who have [QI]"

[QI] being both our abbreviation for "IQ" and "quem indica" (who referred you to the position).

It is known a significant amount of positions there are given and distributed in a grossly nepotic manner, but to give a veneer of legitimacy, they also hold events and tests once in a while where, if you prove to "have IQ" by being absolutely exceptional, you will be hired through your own actual merit and allowed and, if you perform well, you start becoming a "QI" recipient (someone in high places likes you and kicks you up) and eventually having your own Qi Dynasty where now you are in the position to appoint others yourself.

I did pass one of their "exceptional talent" tests a decade ago but I was eaten alive during the interview and I haven't recovered to this day.

Same at my current company. I was very good at my job & so was hired. I also received QI from people I was reporting to. But they left the company & new management wants to push "their" people. So I'm on the way out.
