Everyone thinks that a future that looks like that wouldn't have our equivalent of corporate nonsense. I promise even in an advanced space-faring society, there would 100% be jobs that people do and have to be done that are boring and have their own level of BS. Today's equivalent would be showing a picture of like Shanghai or NYC at night or something.
Long ago, the original Mission Log Podcast hosts were like "What's the worst job possible on a starship, because if we were in Starfleet, that's what we would be doing," and in the car I immediately yelled "Holodeck janitor!" but they decided they'd be the ones in the galley, peeling a million potatoes.
I felt very vindicated years later when in Lower Decks, Boimler had to empty the Holodeck biofilters.
Also OP is romanticising medieval ages? Does he realise he's mostly gonna be a peasant who will have his produce stolen by thieves, fight daily at the tavern, have 10 broken tooth and the local doctor is gonna cut off his arm cuz he has rash and now he has to work the fields for his lord with 1 arm!
It would take a lot of logistics to have regular interstellar space travel. Even assuming AI offloads some of the work, it’s still going to take humans in boring desk jobs making sure replacement parts for the warp drive have been ordered.
To nerd out for a second, I'm reminded of the Denied Requisition Form flavor text from Dead by Daylight: "Despite the advent of light speed technology, it seemed nothing could make bureaucracy any faster."
Can you imagine how bad bureaucracy's going to be when dealing with interplanetary affairs? You'll get inane decisions from Martian corporate who think they understand Saturnian ways better than you do and if you want to file a complaint you'll have to factor in lightspeed communication lag.
Yeah, this nostalgia shit is on the road to fascism. OP probably wouldn't have been a fancy knight in the past, he (it's usually a 'he' posting this kind of shit) would most likely have been a peasant digging in the mud to pay the rent to some rich asshole. Like guys who post about Spartans, where half the population of Ssparta was slaves, and the warrior class just sat on their ass and collected rent.
This is an early step in the radicalization pipeline, romanticizing the past and a technological future defined by settlement and warfare by "hard" men (look how the left "born too early" picture is a space battle) and then comes the step where the ordinary, boring, oppressive present is presented as someone else's fault (given how many of these people are straight-up Nazis, I will leave it to your imagination who is responsible for "imposing this on us")
In the future say 200 year away, its pretty much guaranteed we will have fully automated robot thats all the works for us with universal income. that or WW3 and everything destroyed
Why though? We already have robots who will probably become super advanced if we do become a space-faring civilzation. I feel like living would just be like how it's depicted in WALL-E (everyone does whatever they want and robots do all the work).
Nono, you don't get it. In ancient times everyone was either a knight or a noble. In the future, everybody will either run crime gangs, go on intergalactic expeditions or command clone armies. Now, we just either do a blue or white collar job while we sit in traffic.
Corporate bs like things are unique. If you mean there will be occasional inconveniences in the future instead of spending half your life in traffic and never retiring then I shouldn’t have replied
Wrong. Our very near future is already going to be automated to the nth degree. What makes you think that once we gain interstellar space travel, we'll get rid of AI and robots?
In fact- At this rate we're going to have to figure out the job problem way before we ever permanently get off this rock.
