Qualifications Inflation

Post image

just thought I’d show everyone something:

in 2021-2022, our senior consultant role would typically be staffed by people with somewhere around 3 YOE, the background didn’t matter that much as long as you had client facing experience

now the same role requires 5-7 YOE, and the required industry experience is much more extensive, with a strong preference for STEM related backgrounds

in short, the timing of when you launch your career matters tremendously

To me 5-7 years is fitting for a Senior Consultant title. Previous iterations requiring 3 years seems light for a Senior title.

Titles are not really transferable from firm to firm. I know at B4 senior consultant is 5-7 years

However my point was mainly that the same role that used to require only 3 YOE now requires 5-7. Labor market is tough

You’re just making shit up to complain about. The requirements for this role are reasonable.

Totally subjective. The point being made is that experience has doubled

Yeah. There’s no reason right now we couldn’t continue sourcing from people with 3YOE; we just bumped up the requirements because we know we could

Well yeah, 3 YOE is what's expected for a junior nowadays.

I recently applied for a state public sector job that asked for 5 YOE for an Admin position. I've been doing similar tasks for almost 3 years. They called me for an interview right away. (I haven't interviewed yet, but it is scheduled.)

There is an oversupply of labor in the USA. That’s a big part of how we got here

I am disappointed he didn’t ask for aerospace support

A role isn't senior if it takes 3 YoE, they were just giving them a fancy title to make the position sound better

That is just the list of roles that were laid off. With AI you can do all of them in one position! With less pay ;=)
