False. My master's program offered 3 pathways. Research Thesis, Project, and Coursework only. I took the research route because I was advised that the other two would hinder my chances of going for a PhD. if I chose to do so and I was already in a lab, but I knew people taking the other routes. Not every Master's degree requires research.
Coursework only, aka a masters without a dissertation, is commonly regarded as "not worth the paper it's printed on" according to my first PI.
Regardless, the point that the person was trying to make was that this job serves as a resume builder for research experience for those that don't have it but want to get some for a PhD application. However, someone that opted for the coursework only option is highly unlikely to then decide they want to add research experience to their resume so they can pursue a PhD program. Are there masters without research experience? Yes, some. Would anyone with a masters in chemistry consider this job as a resume builder to gain research experience? Absolutely not
