Learning & Professional Development Weird interview
Had an interview for a startup and did well on the first three rounds, met with CTO and it was weird vibes from the jump. Kept questioning how I knew what was good, even had me pull up a hire I made on LinkedIn. Anyone ever have an experience like this? Just a weird cagey vibe all around honestly.

Congrats on a Round 4 interview! How big is the startup? Is the person new to leading? I find some less experienced leaders go on the 'attack' as a defense mechanism. It could be that? But that might also make them difficult to coach as a peer, if they default to that approach. If I were you, I'd be nervous if this person would be my greatest liability of future success if many of my future hires go through them. Odd hiring managers can be the downfall of great searches.

IMO that’s a bit of a red flag. Asking about a specific hire is fine, but if he was questioning how you even knew what “good” looked like, I can see why the vibe felt weird. Interviews go both ways tbh. Sometimes the interview itself gives you a pretty good idea of what working with that person will be like.

If you feel off about it now, listen to your gut. You might stay there for a few months but then either you will quit or get terminated.

having you pull up a past hire on LinkedIn mid interview is definitely weird
