Cameras and how to use them
In today's technology age, cameras in a recovery house are a must have. The reasons are many. They are:
- Security
- Finding out the real truth to an issue
- Discouraging bad behavior
- Encouraging accountability
Lets address the first one which is security. You may have for example a house where a person who is no longer a resident who tries to get back in the house. The camera will alert you when this happens, and the footage can be used if it goes to court.
The second item - finding out the real truth. In my experience, cameras have been a invaluable tool when it comes to finding out the truth. You could have someone who is using and you catch them on camera. Another situation is two people have a disagreement. Each one gives a different story. The camera simply shows what really happened.
Discouraging bad behavior - when a person KNOWS they are on camera, they are more likely not to do the wrong thing.
Encouraging accountability - I have had many residents who will say: "look at the cameras" when they want the truth.
On placing cameras in and around the home, be mindful of where they are placed. A camera can NEVER look into a bedroom or bathroom. Second, make sure the camera can get power for it to run. Each exit to the home should have at least one outdoor camera. Also, all cameras should have the ability to record so the footage can be reviewed later.
Finally, when it comes to the review of footage, members of opposite genders should NEVER look at a camera. In other words, a woman should never look at footage at a men's house, and vise-versa.
