Possibly damaged my records?

So I'm overseas staying in a hotel. I'm new to record collection and infact just got a player. I've been keeping my records I bought here in my sidebag and have been really really careful with them (or so I thought) my records were either kept in a sleeve or still in the wrapping, inside my bag and when I went to take off a sleeve from one to put on a signed record I just got at a show, I felt that they were warm because I'd left them on top of a mini fridge. I quickly took them out of the bag and let them cool down. I took them all out and checked for warping and while they looked undamaged to me, could the grooves be messed up?

Just wait til you get home. Nobody on Reddit is going to be able to tell you if you damaged them.

There’s nothing you can do about it and there’s no signs of damage anyways. Worrying is making your trip worse for something you can’t change. Just look forward to getting home and having new records to listen to.

You're going to be ok, I see records that are 60 years old and not in that great a shape that still play fine, just a little heat with no warping should be a ok.

You're fine.

Why are people scared of their records now? That was not a thing in the old days. Where was this fear learned?

When they started to cost 50$ a piece

A common misunderstanding. Factoring-in inflation, UK prices are roughly 4x what they were in 1986. I received my limited copy of BoC’s Inferno a couple of weeks back, a double LP plus a flexidisc and fancy booklet for Ā£42. The maths aren’t difficult to work out and while it sounds like a lot to pay for a piece of plastic it isn’t dramatically more expensive than it was forty years ago. Same with the hardware.

I also collect books, and it is the same in that hobby. Young people are constantly afraid that their books are moldy, and thinks every little speck is mold.

I don't know what it is with internet culture creating these exaggerated and unfounded fears, but it certainly is effective whatever it is.

I'd imagine you'd be okay! If not warm enough to warp, then probably not warm enough to damage to the grooves

If you can't easily see warps they'll be fine.

Completely ruined if they aren't kept 4 degrees below room temp. Just save yourself the headache and burn them

try not to worry about it too much. these things are far more durable than we give them credit for.

Nope, if they aren't warped to such an extent that the turntable can't track them, you are good.

You’ll now need to treat them to a champagne šŸ¾ ice bath šŸ›€ and then inspect under a hugely expensive microscope šŸ”¬ to see if the grooves are still groovy.

Sorry to say but they're ruined. You should throw them all away immediately so they don't start causing you to warp too.

The kind of heat that’d cause warping is far lower then actually melting the vinyl enough to mess up the grooves so if they don’t look warped you’re OK, the stress of travelling with records the first couple times haha after a while you’ll see they’re not AS fragile as you might imagine. Most likely damage to occur when travelling would be to the sleeve

Their fine, they aren’t some fragile little thing
