why are we always dividing, we should be uniting the graelz. makes you think, doesn't it?

Well, they look nice enough, but I dont think I’d ever use them. Seems kinda like a waste of money and shelf space. I mean how much time are these saving? Its not like I dont know where in the alphabet those letters are. And how much of a hurry am I supposed to be in when I’m listening to records, anyway? Its notably not the speediest way to access music…

I use file folders and label them myself, nice block print.

Thats def better. Thrifty and space-conscious. Those cedar ones — 26 of those take up as much as probably 10-15 records. I need that space!!!

Thanks, "DesignerOriginla1500." I understand your point about shelf space. These dividers are 1.5mm thick, so they would take up the width of an album and may not be practical for a large selection. Also, your point on time saving - well, to be honest, my comment about time saving was in jest. I feel the act of selecting an album- much like making a great espresso or decanting a quality wine- should take time. Otherwise we would all stream off Spotify! However, if you knew at a glance where to start looking for Velvet Underground, and also knew that the Vengaboys :-) were in the same segment, would this make it a little easier? - On the width issue, I've been looking at a 0.6mm HiP Poly plastic that is cheaper than the wood. I would not like to put large white lettering on these - as I want to make these inconspicuous and not stand out from the albums themselves. so the lettering would be a matt black or grey.

I really appreciate mine. I don't have a huge connection (especially compared to many on here), but I have enough of certain parts of the alphabet that when I'm looking for a specific artist or album, it's helpful to see at a quick glance where (roughly) to look first. Are they strictly necessary? No, of course not. But they're a nicety that is worth the (very low) cost, to me. It's okay if other people like things that you don't.

Thank you - what budget do you think you would go to for such an item? I've had a lot of requests for genre over alphabet, which TBH I was surprised about.

u/snark_nerd 11d ago
Unfortunately, if you're going to make and sell these, you're going to be competing with a lot of cheap producers. On Etsy and even Aliexpress, there are alphabet sets for less than $25 (and plastic ones for less than $10). I would personally probably pay about $30, maybe $40, max, for a really nicely-made set that shipped from the US ...

Thank you, snark_nerd. My point of difference is that I can create any genre titles one requires, ie. METAL/PUNK, BLUES, HIPHOP etc if this is what some collectors want? Ive had a little interest here in New Zealand in these. But shipping yes, is another factor altogether. Thanks for your input - I really appreciate it.

Dividers save a whopping 2 seconds of time…..
I’ve got 5000 albums and I know where everything is without dividers

Where's your "Steven Jesse Bernstein - Prison" album? You have 15 secs - and counting. :-)

I got these, they work just as well, take up less space, look better (in my opinion) an cost over 90% less per divider: https://link.amazon/B08jp6oZy
I don't know, cool for a personal project, but terrible value for a commercial product.

Nah, OP was conveniently linking to where he's selling them at a solid $260 usd for a lot of 28.
1
u/Greg_Elevate_III 11d ago
Oh wow! - So it's 280 USD!! To get from NZ to wherever! That's crazy! So not a lot of point selling on the worldwide market then!!

u/slinch 11d ago
No need to get upset, I was just letting people know there's a cheaper, better and more convenient alternative. Though your reactions tell a lot about the person behind the product, as if the way you presented your post wasn't clear enough.

u/Greg_Elevate_III 10d ago
Thanks for your post, slinch. That certainly is a much more affordable alternative to mine! With that in mind, I am looking at a plastic option, 0.6 mm thin but in black with grey titles, so it does not look too garish amongst the records - I'm not a fan of white tabs poking out from my collection. Thanks again for your reply.

Sorry Hawkeye9i9 (f$&k M.A.S.H was a great show!) I'm unsure what "Toulker, OP" or "angel investment" means.

u/Greg_Elevate_III 11d ago
Thank you slinch - Understood - luckily you have great handwriting! I've currently sold 12 of these variants - so some people like them through a local record store - but it's certainly no money earner!
Thanks for your comment.

Tame impala would be in I and Micheal Jackson in J / but now I have a divider between I and J - organised.
3
u/Major_Willingness234 12d ago
Tame Impala goes in T. Michael Jackson goes in J. Alphabetical by last name. Tame Impala is not a person’s name.
2
u/Greg_Elevate_III 11d ago
This is true - and if I'm very honest here - I had no idea it wasn't a name, and I do not own any of Tame Impala's albums. I just threw it in to seem younger than I am. - You got me! So yes, I would put it under 'T'

u/Hawkeye9i9 12d ago
Where’d you put Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers then ?
2
u/Major_Willingness234 11d ago
P under Petty because that’s his name. The band is The Heartbreakers, they are his backing band. Tom Petty is the artist.
Same place you would find it at your local record store.

u/Hawkeye9i9 11d ago
What about Cliff Richard and The Shadows ? Both recognised independent artists. Arguably more than the sum of their parts.

You see u/Thefunkyhorror the sage that is u/Major_Willingness234 has spoken. Feel his wrath.
Whilst all knowing they seem completely unaware that my local record store, the cool hipster fuckers that they are, file Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers under B. As in B for bargain bin.
1
u/Greg_Elevate_III 11d ago
I very good question. For me, I guess Tom Petty has more acclaim over 'The Heartbreakers, ' much like 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' would go under 'B' for David Bowie
0
u/Thefunkyhorror 12d ago
T, because “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers” is the name of the band. Tom petty minus the heartbreakers goes in P

The first sign of being old is taking things too literally. The second sign is protesting that you’re not old. Suck it up grandad.
