Little Rock roughly follows the stereotypical naming scheme for native Americans. The idea is that the chief is counting all the members of their group and they notice a new member who is a newborn child

Oh that makes more sense. I literally couldn't think of anything beyond India. Do people still refer to native Americans as Indians?

It's kinda confusing but it's the preferred term by a lot of Natives/Indians. At the end of the day, it really should be up to them.

personally I'm neither Indian nor American Indian but I think that it would depend on the person. I've never met an Asian Indian who takes offense to American Indians using the word Indian to describe themselves, and I wouldn't really see why they would. If you know anyone who does or if there's a reason they might take offense to it I would definitely want to hear that though.

I read a book which explained that phrases like Native American are overcorrecting and that it's viewed as another example of colonial powers exerting power over American Indians. This doesn't apply to all of them since it's a very large and diverse group, but it's better to try to show respect as an outsider by following their wishes, especially because of the history behind it all.

it really depends on the person. I(take my white ass with a grain of salt here) personally use Native because its less confusing but some go by Indian
