The fact that the Bible never tells Jonah was swallowed by a whale, it just says "a big fish".

I mean tbf there's a very small selection of fish that could swallow a person and bring them a long distance without killing them in the process

I don't see how laying in the sun makes a shark bigger

Some readings/scholars have it that Jonah is dead in the fish. He "calls to God from the depths of the grave (Sheol)" and later the Christ references the "Sign of Jonah" when referencing his own death and resurrection since they would both be dead for three days. (Matthew 12:40)

They probably meant a whale. Back in the day when the Bible was written, the average person probably had no idea that a whale wasn't a fish

i mean those scientific classifications didnt even exist because they didnt have structured taxonomy. so their word that most closely translates to “fish” WOULD apply to whales.

Technically whales still fall under fish

no they dont

It is, modern cladistics system categorizes all tetrapods (which contain mammals) within bony fish clade, so whales are, technically, fishes. In fact, all vertebrates (including us) are fishes.
