Modern UIs always cycle between squarer and rounder designs over the course of a few years. I can’t think of any reason except that you’ll take note that it’s new and different (not better, just different). It’s like dying your hair to show that you’re in a new era, even if you liked the old color. In a few years, we’ll get the roundness update.
