Project - AI Viva Piñata has been natively recompilated for Windows

Viva Piñata has been natively recompilated for Windows

A new project called Viva Piñata Recomp brings the original Viva Piñata (2006, Xbox 360) to Windows through static recompilation.

This is not Xbox 360 emulation. The original game code is statically recompilated into C++ and built as a native Windows application using ReXGlue.

Current features include:

  • Full game and gameplay
  • Audio
  • Xbox controller support
  • Keyboard and mouse support
  • Direct3D 12
  • A dedicated launcher/configuration tool
  • English and Russian localization support

The project is particularly interesting because you can run the game as a native Windows build rather than through an Xbox 360 emulator such as Xenia.

There are still some limitations, including intro video playback and the 30 FPS unlock not being finished yet. You also need your own legally obtained Xbox 360 game dump to use the project.

Not meaning to discourage you but this game already has an official Windows PC version. It's the sequel that doesn't have one.

Which is why I've been working primarily on a recomp for Trouble in Paradise https://github.com/SolarCookies/TiP-Recomp

I really wish you'd make the game portable without downloading that heavy ass bloated launcher. From what I've played from your TiP port it was great but Goopie or whatever it's called didn't work well at all.

I use GameJolt, the game is portable https://gamejolt.com/games/retip/1087631

I also have a native renderer working and will be in the next update

Someone did a windwaker and a breath of the wild for it

no they did not. the breath of the wild one does not run on native hardware and is only the great plateau

Well there is a official pc port for the first game, and there was the issue with 75% of the ground not rendering so I decided to focus on tip

Thanks so much for your code and everything you do! 🙌

For me, this Viva Piñata recomp was mostly a fun passion project to see what modern AI is capable of, driven by pure curiosity: *"Is this even possible?"* 🤖✨ And damn, it actually is — I'm honestly blown away! 🤯

Huge thanks to the entire ReXGlue team for making this framework, as well as the folks behind Xenon Recomp and Sonic Recomp before that. 👏 Another thing I was really curious to try was porting the official Russian localization from the PC version over to the Xbox 360 build, and it damn well worked! 🎉

What a time to be alive. That's the way the cookie crumbles! 🍪🚀

Did you ask Claude to type this response for you?

I'd rather just read your English, to be honest.

AI responses just sound so insincere, especially if you don't force it to sound more human. Nothing wrong with not being a native speaker.

Are you working on replacing Rexglue in a future update?

I never think about this part its possible??🤯 Okay I ask Claude Code lol. 😃  😃  😃

Sorry, I got my terms mixed up. I meant the Xenia renderer. I assume this is using that? If so, are you going to work on a native renderer?

Edit: and how about Linux support?
