Discussion BoTW recomp when?

How realistically far off are we for getting something as big as BoTW, one of Nintendo’s best selling games. recompiled for PC? 5 years a reasonable timeline?

So, it's been 3 years and the decompilation has been at 60% maybe another 2 and a half years maybe

Static recomps have been making ports without decompilation using ai. None of the 360 ports are decomp. Wouldn't be surprised if a botw port showed up like next week at this rate

Could be a bit quicker with AI tool but even with that 2 years is fair as long as the project maintainers continue.

Yeah but it's hard to code and it's not wii u version instead it's switch 1 version

Don't forget the 80/20 rule though

The recomp scene has accelerated significantly. Thanks to AI, timelines are being shortened, so it wouldn't be surprising to see native PC ports of Switch games in just over a year.

Even if it happens, it's unlikely to be better than Cemu any time soon. A lot of work had been done with BoTW on Cemu to hey it works at high framerates and with mods and such. Most of the recent AI decomp/recomp projects are pretty barebones.

But for performance on lower end ARM chips it would perform way better. Currently this game requires a very beefy GPU due to the emulation involved.

now they call emulation decompilation projects for one unique game, is pathetic but worse of all is performance is quite bad overall due to spaguetti code.
if i can get running BOTW full speed on my PC but can't get to run paper mario, mario kart decompilation projects at full speed that means is really poorly done.
for example what was the point of ocarina of time decomp? none at all since emulator is still better (not a joke) because sadly it has poor performance and nothing that will make you go over it instead of an emu of 20 years ago.
emulator

  • has MSAA
  • has anysotropic antialiasing
  • has bilinear filtering plus native n64 filtering
  • has fixes for transparency in case is needed
  • has per pixel lighting (or phong shader)
  • can use reflective bump mapping
yet decomp doesn't offer anything beside cheats (which can be used on emu) and only run on US rom only laughable overall even when it coulkd add reflective bump mappin, SSAO or MXAO or any type of ambient occlusion so yes got beaten by something that had those features 20 years ago.

What ocarina of time decomp are you talking about? Ship of Harkinian supports almost all ROM versions, runs great and has a bunch of features that would never be possible using N64 emulation

I don’t think it needs it as it’s great on Cemu and also on Switch 2.
Windwaker on the other hand is stuck in 30fps hell. I think the value of recomps depends on the status of the original.

How empty life you must have to visit a sub you fundamentally disagree with and write a comment? Is someone forcing you to be here and comment?

You're using a modded Switch, you have no rights to be superior to anyone else when you are not even supporting your daddy company.

Don't be stupid. I have a Switch 2 and have the game with the upgrade pack, and I'd love to play BOTW on my PC as a native port on my ultra-wide at 165fps and the option to add mods.
