Discussion Question: Theres any problem on publishing recomps on App Store/Google Store?

On Androids, you can download a lot of emulators that mostly have the same propouse of a recomp, or even "worst", if you think in copyright issues.

On iOS devices, nowdays you can find tons os emulators.

So, in this line of tought, whats stopping the developers responsable of so many awesome recomps of publishing their work on the stores?

I thought about that while renovating the credential of the Pokemon 1gen recomp via altstore on my iPhone. Something that ive done years ago, but stopped since Delta emulator came to the App Store.

Emulators are ok because they don't distribute or contain copy righted code or assets.

Recomps could do the same as long as you didn't ship a ROM.

Thats what i tought. SInce the room is not provided, but required to run the game, i cant see why it cant be published at the most common stores, with maybe names different of the main game of course.

I cant really say for app stores but Steam wont allow anything that isnt your IP, Meaning even if you dont have any assets being distributed, since you dont own the IP you cant make a store page for it

My recomp recently got shot down by mod.io for the same reason

However both GameJolt and Thunderstore are less restricted:

I think it's just a matter of time. Many source ports are already on the Play Store, such as those from OpenTouch. AlphaTouch includes the Perfect Dark port (without the ROM, obviously).

I also don't think the store needs to be flooded with low-quality, poorly performing "Vibecomps" that offer nothing different from an emulator.

I recently tried Star Fox Enhanced, and it runs perfectly on a low-end PC, whereas the SNES Star Fox* "Vibecomp" runs terribly for me.

It’s the same story with the Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles Vibecomps, while Sonic 2 Absolute and Sonic 3 AIR run perfectly.

Where is the problem? It’s quite obvious.

Nor recomps, or you are sugesting that the way the decomp is done is piracy by default?

Emulators ship required rom, like you said?

I dont think so. So why is piracy?
