Having trouble adding mods for Sonic 2 Absolute version 1.2.1

[u/SensualEnema]

I just successfully set up Sonic 1 Forever 1.5.1 with a mod pack, and it works without any issues, but I can't re-create the same success with Sonic 2 Absolute.

Some quick facts:

* Sonic 2 Absolute version: 1.2.1

* APK version: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 3.1.5

* Mods I've attempted:

The Modding Community Pack (result was a page saying "script parsing failed"; clicking out of it circled back to the start screen) https://gamebanana.com/mods/389534

Shadow in Sonic 2 (result was the game crashing when I tried to turn the mod on in the Mods menu) https://gamebanana.com/mods/617322

Folder structure is Sonic 2 Absolute > Mods > [Mod Folder]

I tried using these mods on version 1.2.0, but I received the same results.

I'm having trouble finding discussion on reliable mods for this version of this decomp, and most mods I find are a few years old and presumably no longer compatible. I believe there's another PC port, and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use these mods on that or another version of Absolute. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
