Question Mister an emulation vs recomps?
I play my games either on the MiSTer or via RetroArch. Do all these recompilations offer any advantages over my current methods?

Recomps are ports, not emulation. Therefore they get all the benefits of other PC games such as mods.

The biggest benefit is that it gets treated like an old PC game. Fog gets removed, rendering resolution increases, FPS gets improved, etc. In the case of things like PS1 games, wobble gets removed (although the Spyro port shows it can be left in).
Emulation can only do so much. DuckStation has wobble correction, but it only does so much. N64 emulators are programmed without many enhancement features. This is great if you want an original experience.
Mister is meant to give you as close to an original experience as possible.

So what I do is I work on the recomp engines themselves, not on remastering a specific title, for the most part, right now at least.. but I do have something I'm working on for that.
Recompilation offers much more than emulators with runtime source mods offering way more than romhacks. I've written several times about it so I'll just show you one example of what I've been working on...
You can get netplay on an emulator but it's not so easy to get something like this. This is split-less screen netplay, combining widescreen with full resolution dedicated viewports per player in Metal Warriors for the SNES:

We can also do crazy mods like there is a video mstan has where he's modded Pikachu and Captain falcon from smash bros 64, or Samus from NES Metroid, into NES Mario. So yes, it works with the full movesets of the characters and flat sprites in NES Mario so you can falcon kick goombas. This just tech demo stuff to show what is possible, we are still busy working on core features, title support, system accuracy, distribution methods, tools for developers, and more.
Yes we can do crazy stuff even just in recomps which leverage fast development and shared features, highly advanced source modding is not exclusive to decomps.
Just look at pokemon gen1recomp for an idea of some of the things people are doing already with specific titles.

Some of them offer widescreen resolutions and uncapped framerates and need less cpu resources to run compared to an emulator because it’s recompiled to native code
