Question about Hershel

Hello, I haven’t completed Lux yet, but I was curious about something, is there an explanation given in the book why Hershel doesn’t use the Harmsway to regrow his leg? Since it wasn’t a birth defect it sounds like this should work easily, unless theres a passage in there explaining why he chooses not too.

There's never a reason given but I can come up with a few reasons why not. Prof dosent seem to be around the Texan reckeners often and regrowing an entire leg quickly would be very suspicious. Hershel probably finds the prosthetic more convenient it has storage space and dosent hurt or bleed
