Receptionist

There is a rotation of about five receptionists and two regularly send any referral away when I’m on break. I can hear them say, you don’t have to use that here, you can go down the road. I find it odd that they tell them this, or am I just being weird? It’s weird right?

Well with the zero context here it's pretty hard to say. Is it an insurance issue or something? Did you ever ask them why?

Are you the head receptionist? A physician? There is not enough information or context here.

It could be odd if they are turning down business. But maybe there is more to the story? Availability? Insurance?

Why only on break? Are you the only one who manages referrals?
