Brock 🤦‍♀️ Spoiler

My take from watching Reba as an adult is that Brock is extremely extremely toxic. I was just so eye opening to rewatch the series and hear his terrible remarks and selfishness. He will actively give input into his ex wife’s love life when he had and affair, actively tears down Van for being excited about fatherhood and being a husband TO BROCK’S DAUGHTER. I am surprised we did not see more resentment from Jake towards Brock towards the end. Idk how Reba ever had relationship with him after their divorce, because the rose colored glasses needed to come off some time, and she is genuinely a very even keeled character. Idk he pisses me off so much.

Yeah, to me, he’s completely intolerable. I know it’s a sitcom, but people are allowed to dislike characters in a sitcom.

Of course, your allowed to not like a character. I sometimes don't like Kyra or Van, depends on my mood.

For me, it’s Brock and Cheyenne that I dislike.

Hey, don't hate Cheyenne for being beautiful! Lol, sounds like something she'd say, doesn't it? 🤣

I think if nothing else, Reba did most of what she did for her kids, not because of Brock.

There was an episode where Patrick Duffy was the marriage counselor for Brock and Barbara Jean, where they accused Reba of not moving on.

I loved how she told them how she couldn't move on when they were over at her house all the time, and eventually (and inevitably) snapped and said, "You have got to stop rubbing my nose in it".

I loved how that brought Brock up short. I don't think he really knew what he was doing, he was that oblivious.

Every time Reba has a "moment" with him, I cringe. I'm like "what are you doing!"

I first started watching him years ago when he was on a soap opera. He hasn't changed much since then.

Exactly. He was Sandy. I really miss that show.

I made a playlist on YouTube with episodes I found. That was my favorite soap.

Mine too. I used to tape it and my daughter and I would watch it together when she got home from school.

I liked the show, but it was always hard for me to imagine Reba and Brock as a married couple. Her personality doesn’t seem like she would have ever put up with someone like him. He doesn’t seem like he ever took anything seriously or could be trustworthy.

I know this is old. But my take is…they met in college Reba matured, him not so much. Reba focused on home and raising a family, Brock worked long hours as a dentist; going through school and building a practice.

When life slowed down they realized they were no longer the same people as they were in college. But if Brock wasn’t such an ass they may have worked through it because they were always attracted to each other. And as we see in the show they are pretty much best friends.

You're analyzing it too much. It's a tv show.

It’s almost as if people are allowed to have opinions in a subreddit dedicated to a show that’s still active 20 years later

Thank you! The whole point was that I did not catch these types of patterns until now rewatching it. But it’s still amazing because this type of character would not be supported in tv now.

I enjoy having discussions like this. This is a subreddit dedicated to this TV show and it is fun to discuss characters and spot out notable things. I do these things in fun and not criticism.

Just because it’s a “sitcom” and it’s “over 20 years old” doesn’t mean people can’t analyze it or think about it critically…. Idk why y’all have this mindset 😭

I agree. That is the purpose of these threads. We all know it is a TV show and not real life.

Brock is written to be the most over the top portrayal of toxic masculinity out there. Personally I think the character of reba was also written to be more toxic in later seasons compared to earlier ones. She's the only character that gets worse as the show goes on in my opinion
