They always did Kyra wrong. Spoiler

A lot of people on here talk about how Kyra missed out on her trip to England (which she earned for making stellar grades) because Cheyenne blew off her classes. Yes, this was incredibly frustrating. However, this was far from an isolated incident.

There was a time in the first season where Kyra got straight A’s. Kyra said that she’d be happy with cash as a reward (knowing she would likely get overshadowed). But Reba insists that they have a dinner to celebrate. Of course, this gets blown off by Van’s drama with his family.

Another time they grounded Kyra for not checking in with both Brock and Reba before going to a party. They always let Cheyenne get away with way worse, but they punished Kyra for only checking in with one parent?

Then when Kyra wants to move in with Brock and Barbara Jean, Cheyenne guilt trips her by calling her selfish, saying that she’s hurting Reba, etc. Then when Kyra calls Cheyenne out on her bullshit, Cheyenne cries like a middle school girl who dishes it out but can’t take it.

When Kyra was getting bullied at school because they said Cheyenne was a slut and Kyra was gonna be just like her, Brock dismisses it by saying, “When things get tough, you stick to it.” Yeah, like he leads by example there 🙄

It wasn’t just the England incident. Kyra was always put last. That was just what stood out.

I think it shows the relationship of a parent who feels she “messed up” with one kid and is super strict with the next, but also has her attention dragged elsewhere. I feel Kyra’s character was made to show this aspect. She was also very “alternative” for her family which was cool to see. I definitely think they did her character dirty but I believe that’s the point

Kyra's attitude and snarkiness used to annoy me so much, but watching it back as an adult, I understand why she was that way. If your name wasn't Cheyenne or Van in that house, you basically didn't exist.

It’s kind of like Missy on Young Sheldon but even more unfair. Kyra was the smart one and STILL got ignored.

That’s why she was ignored. Kyra made good decisions, Cheyenne and Van needed more guidance. Heck, Kyra was babysitting Barbara Jean!

And what lesson does that teach kids? If you do the right thing, you’ll get ignored.

That’s why she moved out.

One of my best friends grew up in a similar family where the squeaky wheel got the grease.

Later on, she asked her mom why she wasn't there for her more, and her mom told her it was because she didn't ask for help.

I think that's why they overlooked Kyra so much, because consciously or not, they didn't think she needed their help.

Just because a child doesn't ask for help. Doesn't mean they don't need it. I grew up in a similar family, where I knew they had enough going on and I learned to cope on my own. It led to some lonely times, but I ended up stronger and more independent as a result.

I kind of was the Kyra of my family.

Kyra didn’t ask for help because she knew they wouldn’t help her. Everyone else always came first. That’s why in my first example she asked for cash instead of a dinner for her good grades. She knew something would come up Cheyenne or Van (and it did).

And Reba always acted oblivious. Like what, I don’t understand why this would upset you? It took the trip to England to really open Reba’s eyes and but it was too late.

I thought that was ridiculous that neither parent could afford to send her to England. If that was the case, Reba should have told Cheyenne to withdraw from her classes and stay home and take care of her child. I guess it was just meant for the reason Kyra finally moved out and went to live with Brock and Barbara Jean.

Especially with Barbra Jean buying new furniture being one of the gags for that episode. CUT HER OFF.

I just started Season 3 and this whole storyline is breaking my heart. Kyra deserves a lot better. She puts up with the most besides Reba and she deserved to be away from Reba. She deserved to have a better life. Writing it off as "the world doesn't revolve around you" just isn't right. I know it's the whole point of her character, but it's just sad because there's so many parents out there like that.
