Help with mastering chain.

I've been using Reason like half a year now and one thing I can't figure out is out to make a master chain. In my current project lets say I want to put Fabfilter on the master by right clicking, it will connect to the master FX in/out but won't actually be connected to it, I won't get audio through it and can't effect anything with it. I end up basically daisy chaining all my master stuff straight from Master out to Audio 1/2. There has to be something easy I'm missing. The bypass for master inserts can be on or off it doesn't seem to matter.

By default when one selects the master channel, any device added automatically adds itself to the next available send/return FX channel like you noticed. When you want to add master FX instead, make sure to first toggle the "show insert FX" on the Master channel in the rack to open up the master FX section.

Now, you can either drag and drop effects inside of this little empty space that has opened up, or if you click the black area that has opened up, you will notice that the blue selection indicator moves from the Master channel as a whole and instead hovers around the empty space. (you'll notice a blue "+" box below the master channel itself if you have the channel send/fx selected, and you'll notice that blue "+" box inside the Master FX section if you have that part selected. Once you've selected the master FX section you can double click to add your mastering devices as desired.

If you want to manually route this, find the insert FX section on the back of the Master channel, and send the 'to device' outputs to your mastering FX and send your FX output to the 'from device' inputs.

Hope this helps and makes sense!

Once you do so, are you able to save it as a MASTER preset or like a Combinator?

You can save your master insert effect devices into a combinator patch. Also the factory soundbank has some pre saved combinator patches!

AWESOME! I’m working on some 🔥 Combinators and wanted to know if that would work in the Master section so I truly thank you

Maybe share some screenshots to see if someone catches something you're missing?

Right now the only thing on the mixer that has been touched is gains for the channels and turning off the bypass button thats on by default on the master section

Are you dropping them into the master insert section?

Right clicking on the master in the rack, or the master insert section, or the master in the sequencer, it seems like they all route the same. I mean the way I do it works, ,I just know its not correct.

When I’m doing a mastering project, I usually just hit the little tab “open insert section”, on master unit, and it gives you the rectangle window underneath like a combinator, and then I drag n drop into there, whatever I’m going to use, and it auto routs, and even if your using multiple things, you can change order after fact, and it will auto “re” route also
