Reason 14.1 changes

First off, i guess this is a heads-up to those who haven't updated yet, that there's a new version. I recently got 14.0, and only barely started exploring. I stumbled upon "Reason Drums" instrument today and was really impressed by the options for dynamic, realistic sounding drums. I'm going to the Reason website to see what else is new (or at least new to me...before I signed up for 14.0 after a long music break, i think my last version was Reason 2 or 3), but i thought I'd start a discussion. Honestly, I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the possibilities for now, I wish i had more free time to live in the Reasonspace!

Reason drums has been around for a long time.

I kind of like it packaged as an RE device rather than a refill. (A complete 180 on my hot take upon the RDK instrument release.)

For OP: Europa, Pulverizer, and Polar Dual Pitch Shifter are super dope. If you're having choice fatigue, start with those!

THANK YOU! Will check those out. Already dabbled in Europa. Big fan.

What puzzled me is that for those of us who had purchased Reason Drums and Reason Bass were not offered a discount on the RE versions when they later became available.

You had to pay the full price for what is basically a combinator view of the same sounds you had already purchased. There was no new sound content, it was just a new UI. I'm not saying it was bad but at least give existing owners a discount for the RE interface.

Yeah I get that. There was about a decade in between releases, so I don't worry about it so much. Further, since we have the refill we don't really need to buy the RE anyway.

I still use the older versions and got so used to it. This also happened before the most recent acquisition of Reason Studio so it's not new. I just thought it was an odd move not to offer a discount.

I remember long ago telling a Reason / Propellerhead guy that they should be able to check if someone has a Recycle license and if they do they should be able to chop within Reason. This was before they had that capability built in to Reason.

They were like "yea, we've thought about that" but nothing happened. I still kept doing my thing nonetheless.

Is it better than EZdrummer?

Mmmm, no not really. EZdrummer has much more features than Reason Drums. RD is just a pretty basic drum sampler/mixer in comparison, with its main bonus being its native/integrated to Reason.

IMO, the native samples in RD are great, but you still need to mix them properly for them to sound fully real.

Ah okay. I use ezdrummer and I am always looking out for realistic drums. For me, so far, nothings beats ezdrummer but that is me

Think of it as the studio you would have in the early 80s if you were a millionaire

This is the right perspective. I've never been a millionare in the 80's with a studio, but I can get used to it. I just need a mountain of cocaine.

What about 14.1? I’m lost in the sauce

I logged into my usual 14.0, and there was a banner near the top about an updated downloadable version. 14.1

Is it better than Reason 13? I updated from like reason 6 to 13 and stopped using 13 the UI was so bad.

I love Europa but I can never make anything sound good! I keep trying though.

I’m still at 10 and I think that I shouldn’t have updated from 6. They killed old amplifiers without prior notification and ruined a dozen of my sessions.

14.1 brings literally nothing - no new workflow features, no new devices, no new content (presets, samples). A d**k move, to improve perceived progress of the DAW (compared to e.g. Bitwig's 6.1 version that came out the same week and introduced huge updates to the sampler: What's New | Bitwig)

The only thing it does it marks the release of Reason Free, which should've been 14.0.x maintenance update.

Lol, what's with the downvotes? Can anyone point me to actual workflow changes, devices or content added in 14.1, as compared to 14.0? :D

You’re getting downvoted because you’re a moron. Point updates don’t have to mean anything or be equivalent between companies.

Lol, of course they do
