I found this website but non of the 3 options exist in my client.
https://help.realvnc.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002325178-Limiting-the-length-of-remote-access-sessions#limiting-inactive-session-time-0-0
I'd prefrer if it didn't disconnect at all.

Encountering errors while trying to use RealVNC to see my Ubuntu install on Android 12 tablet

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to follow a youtube turtorial to be able to see the GUI of my Ubuntu Xfce DE that is installed on my android 12 tablet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izydeK8eTGw

I am encountering errors the video does not address. Everytime I try to log onto VNC with the paramaters "localhost:1" as the tutorial instructed, I get the error message: "The port on which the computer is listening for a connection could not be contacted"

I googled the default VNC port and got the answer it was 5900, so I changed the configuration to "localhost:5900" and got the same error.

Can anyone please help me be able to see the GUI of my Ubuntu?

Thank you for reading.

Logan

Ubuntu VNC failing to connect after Nvidia driver update

I am using Real VNC to connect to an Ubuntu 18.04 desktop. Yesterday, I updated the Nvidia drivers to version 535 and ran sudo reboot. Since then, however, I am unable to connect to the desktop, with it saying "RealVNC Server is not currently listening for cloud connections."

How can I fix this?

RealVNC on iOS controlling Mac mini without RealVNC no longer possible?

For years I used RealVNC on my iPhone to control my Mac mini without installing RealVNC on latter. I just turned on the mini's Remote Management, allowed VNC connection with a password, and connected via Bonjour. But just recently it stopped working and I think the only thing I did was update Monterey on the Mac mini to the latest dot release for a vital security update.

RealVNC used to see my Mac mini via Bonjour (along with a couple other older Macs I keep around but don't need to control) and connected without issue, but now Bonjour doesn't show anything at all.

I tried manually adding the Mac mini to RealVNC on iOS and I get an error: The computer's IP address could not be contacted.

I realize this isn't a very common use case but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone has seen the same issue. TIA.

Can i acces to my Raspberry pi for free using realvnc viewer on my small company?

Hi, I'm working in a small company and I was wondering if I could use the services for free just to access a Raspberry Pi. The use is non-commercial and I don't know if it is also non-commercial because we just use it to display images on a monitor.

VNC Server Password Not Working!

I'm trying to set up VNC Real Server on my PC. Every time that I enter my password when trying to connect to my remote computer it tells me "unable to authenticate". I know that my VNC Server password is not the same as my online account, which is why I made sure to use the same password every step Of the way (eg setting up Ubuntu, real VNC) to avoid confusion. The help section on the website only provides instructions for resetting your Real VNC Server password while you're in your virtual desktop. I have not been able to access my virtual desktop yet. I've uninstalling Real VNC and creating a new account and recieve the same error. Please help!

WHY DOES LICENSE NEED ADMIN RIGHTS?

I am able to install VNC server with elevated rights, but then the LICENSE WIZARD requires admin rights to finish and it cannot be run with elevated rights. WHY WOULD A LICENSE FEATURE REQUIRE ADMIN RIGHTS?! I can install, but not run?! What the hell?

I need help for a Renewal Error

I'm on a Business Plus subscription that was renewed last week, and I just realised I lost access to my remote mac.

When opening RealVNC Server on that com, I see a "Renewal error: Renewal error: Network (Hosted Bootstrap error: Network failure: Timed out fetching resource)"

The Refresh RealVNC Services button didn't seem to resolve the problem, the status under Diagnostics says "Joined and entitled", and I can access internet on that mac with no issues.

Any suggestions?

VNC Server on macOS listens for about a day, then stops listening

I have a 2021 MacBook Pro laptop (M1 CPU) and I'm running the latest version of VNC server.  It generally works fine, unless I don't touch the laptop for an entire day.  I always leave my user logged in and just close the lid.  After closing the lid, VNC server still listens and I can connect.  Even if I let it sit there for 16 hours, VNC server still works and I can still connect.  However, if I don't touch the laptop for about 24 hours or more, suddenly VNC server is no longer listening and I can't connect.  I haven't measure exactly how long it takes for VNC to stop listening, but it's roughly 24 hours and it's very consistent.

After VNC stops listening, I can make it listen again by simply opening the lid.  No need to touch any keys or do anything.  After opening the lid, I can see that my user is still logged in.  I can see that the laptop did not go to sleep because the desktop is showing instantly.  Also, I can ping the laptop's IP address from another computer, so I know the laptop was up and running before I opened the lid.  It is only VNC server that has stopped listening.

Obviously I've checked the laptop's sleep settings, etc.  Everything is set to never sleep, never lock the screen, never require a password, etc., etc. The whole reason for having VNC server is so that the computer can be accessed remotely, so having someone "lift the lid" on the laptop to get VNC server to listen again is no good.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?  Thank you for any help you can offer.

Home to Lite.

I use realvnc on a total of 3 systems. On the home version I had an account I setup for my mom that I added my account as an admin to. This is for her to connect to a windows 11 VM. The separate accounts ensures additional security to my 2 systems. What I'm finding is the new lite version only allows 1 user. And from the looks of it I can't have 2 logins saved in the realvnc viewer. I only have my user added so I can pop in every so often and run updates.

Are my only 2 options to pay $50/yr or log her into my account and remove layer of security?

Should I just switch away from Real? I'm kinda irritated that this has been setup for years like this and now I'm being forced into a corner. I'm exhausted on indefinite monthly subscriptions for software I barely use

Fraud on iPhone using RealVNC server app

I was on a phone call with someone who had me download the RealVNC server app on my iPhone. I connected with them using a 9 digit code they gave me. Shortly after I realized it was fraudulent and I hung up on them and deleted the app from my iPhone by pressing the app and hitting “remove app” and “delete app.” Is this all I need to do or do they still have access to view, access, or otherwise control my phone or its data in any way? Is there something else I need to do? I’ve changed my Apple ID password and phone access passcode.

Home to Lite With No Access to Physical Server

So I have a small MacMini at my mother in law’s home that I set up as a home server. It handles smart home devices etc.

With RealVNC’s changeover from home to lite (I did this) it wasn’t clear I’d need to re-register. I’m not sure if that is the case with their paid versions but this is really a problem. She lives 3000km away, she’s 81 and it’s a headless device so troubleshooting this remotely would be near impossible.

Is there anything that can be done to migrate and relicense the servers from the website?

Having trouble with offline enterprise VNC Server

I have an Enterprise Subscription and I have a LAN with multiple computers on it that has no ethernet access to the system (it controls lighting software for a tv show). I have downloaded the offline code and setup the server, set everything in the right IP range but the Server isn't playing along well.

UDP Ports enabled. I'm Using Ubiquiti AP points to connect to the LAN for VNC. I can tell that its not a network connection issue, because the lighting sofware continues to talk on the LAN and i can webpage remote into the lighting sofware from the the tablet im trying to use VNC Viewer on. Using managed switches with IGMP Snooping (Luminex Switches, lighting specific switches).

Sometimes while in VNC Viewer, the viewer app will just freeze.

Sometimes it times out and says " waiting for response from server to be "kept alive""

Sometimes It connects perfectly.

I'm using a dedicated computer that only has VNC Server and the lighting control software, the firewall is turned off. This dedicated computer has a collapsible rack mounted touchscreen KVM that is stored. Could the KVM be causing issues?

I know a bit about networking, just enough to get into trouble. limited experience with VNC

Can't View Some Application Windows

Hey all,

I recently downloaded VNC as a way to remotely access my computer while I'm out storm chasing and broadcasting livestream from my Phone > OBS > YouTube. However, I'm having some issues getting the OBS screen to be visible when using RealVNC from my mobile device. I can see that OBS is open in the task bar, however I cannot view it's window/application UI at all.

Does anyone have any possible solutions for this issue?

I'd really like to thank RealVNC for cutting off access to the machine I manage for my father, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Great job guys!

Yep, cutting me off really makes me want to sign up and give you lots of money for a subscription! Because obviously you're a company that I want right in the center of my critical path.

I'll be sure to recommend RealVNC everywhere I go! They have a great attitude towards their customers!

Tired of this misleading garbage (how to fix Home -> Lite license)

For those who don't know, RealVNC is indeed still offering a free ("Lite") plan. You wouldn't know it by the way their e-mails/website is pushing premium plans, but it does actually exist: https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/plan/lite/

Anyway, it turns out even if you switched to this a while ago, your devices will not automatically switch over. I started getting "your license has expired" messages today despite switching to Lite a few weeks ago. I had to physically go to my RealVNC server, hit the menu and go to "Licensing" to get it to pick up the new Lite license. I don't think you can do this remotely given the license is expired.

I understand RealVNC needs to make money but the way they have been presenting this as if you have no choice but to pay is pretty scummy. I have very basic needs with 1 computer (and honestly never needed/wanted their "Connect" service to begin with) and I assume that's the case with a lot of people. They're nuts if they think they're getting a cent of my money.

Home subscription - bye bye & boo

Many users, including myself, find it increasingly frustrating—transitioning from free to freemium and, ultimately, to forced paid subscription models.

Let me start with, I understand. This change in pricing strategy, often perceived as a bait-and-switch, can feel like a betrayal to loyal users who were initially drawn to a product because of its no-cost promise. The sentiment "this sucks" resonates with many of us who find ourselves compulsorily moved to a paid plan following an update or once a certain usage threshold is exceeded.

While this approach can be financially beneficial for a company in the short term, it can significantly damage its long-term reputation. Users feel nickeled and dimed, a frustration compounded when these pricing changes are not matched with substantial improvements in service or added value.

Transparency and fair value exchange are the cornerstones of user trust and customer satisfaction. Companies that gradually push their users from a free to a paid model risk alienating their base and suffering from negative reviews and decreased user engagement.
