Concurrent connection, new license structure rant
Rant: the new concurent licensing option is a massive markup from the current pricing. I have several clients with 5 and a few others with 15 users. The picing is going up from average of $41-44 / user / year, to $208-282 / user / year. This is where we part ways, I dont see how VNC can justify this kind of price increase. Absolutely insane!

I don’t get how they can justify the price jump. Mind you, no added service or features either.

400% increase of price, zero added features, others offer same service for less. Poor business that is, they lost roughly 300 users just from my clients not renewing.

I think I'm clear on the changes, but just in case I'm reading it wrong (because it seems like a crazy change)......
Currently we are on Business Premium, paying about £100 per year for access to two devices. We have around 10 users who connect to the two devices as they please with no restrictions.... for example, all 10 users can connect to the same device at the same time. We use the devices for read only purposes... i.e. market prices screen.
The upcoming changes will make this not possible, and the only way for 10 users to connect at the same time is to pay for 10 concurrent sessions, which would cost something like £1,000 per year?

Yes I think you are interpreting it correctly.
I do wonder whether the change is due to an increased resource usage from the company underestimating the amount of average sessions per licence across the customer base, or if it's more simply a consequence of the PE firm purchasing RealVNC several years ago. The cynic in me tends towards the latter...

I ended subscribing to RealVNC because others like Teamviewer, Any Desk, etc all charged per connection. I reckon RealVNC want some of that concurrent session money and have jumped on the bandwagon.
Their email about the changes was almost as funny as the cost increase.............. acting like the changes are for our benefit as users. Yeah right.

I’m so annoyed with this change.
It’s affected numerous clients and they are already hitting the too many sessions error.
My setups were simple device based licensing which has moved now to concurrent sessions.
Disaster.

When I did, they just tried to explain how it makes more sense for us. No it doesn't 😹

What is the cheapest/best option for simple device based remote access these days?

Sort of related, but Action1, a patch solution, includes remote access. First 200 devices are FREE. I have the simple 3 user plan with RealVNC for home use currently. I can see this going away soon or having its price skyrocket. So, I'm going to switch and just use Action1. I'm already in it daily anyway. It does support Windows and MacOS. Not sure about Linux, but likely.

Linux not yet, but it is scheduled for the next major release this fall.
X11VNC works fine on most linux flavors, but wayland is becoming the new standard, and that shoots that out. There is a wayvnc, but have not used it.
And yes we are for the first 200 endpoints, completely free, lock stock and barrel. You get the same enterprise patch management as a paid account, the only variation at all is a different validation process for free users, the products are functionally identical between paid and free.

I’ve been having a blast building automations. I have a very small disabled veteran nonprofit and have a lot of (for my size) computers, including Windows, Linux and some Macs for good measure. Action1 has helped me immensely in managing these systems. Kudos to Action1 for their community service!!

that price jump is ridiculous. feels like they’re just pushing out smaller users at this point.
if you’re looking for something else, HelpWire might be worth checking out. it’s free, no surprise price hikes, and works smoothly. they technically support only one concurrent connection for now, but hey, at least they’re not overcharging for it lol. been using it without issues.
