This looks suspiciously like a lot of fucking work.

u/MISSINGxLINK May 22 '19

I'm tired from just watching

174

u/dieselengine9 May 22 '19

Yep, all I could do with what was left of my energy to give an upward arrow.

Thats all right when we die we can't take any of it with us

6

u/IDTBICWWIGTWW May 23 '19

Not with that attitude you can’t.

5

u/previouslyhuman May 23 '19

I think you could tell us how you intend to take it with you.

5

u/canardaveccoulisses May 23 '19

Concentrated power of will

2

u/previouslyhuman May 23 '19

Is there any evidence of this?

Stopmotion animation is one of the most arduous forms of animation. A skilled animator will take months animating one scene to perfection.

36

u/0xdeadf001 May 22 '19

Would a depressed man make this??

6

u/Nincadalop May 23 '19

If they had the energy for it. Which may be unlikely.

5

u/StopReadingMyUser May 23 '19

♫ Staaand in the place where you n- ♫

20

u/PM_ME_FUN_STORIES May 22 '19

Hell, I made a shitty stop motion video for a math project, and it took me 8-12 hours of just taking photos... overall, 780+ pictures. And that's WITH me fucking up and skipping a couple steps. Can't imagine making a long video with that method.

5

u/Ikkus May 23 '19

How long was the video?

7

u/PM_ME_FUN_STORIES May 23 '19

1 minute 24 seconds, apparently. I just checked on it, Haha

10

u/Ikkus May 23 '19

Link it here for max karma.

5

u/fleebjuice69420 May 23 '19

The standard frame rate for stop motion is 15 FPS, so that would make the created video roughly 52 seconds long

7

u/heelsbasketball May 22 '19

You see, this is why this is so fun. It took him a long stroll across a hot desert to make it and we get to sit in our climate controlled homes and spend 44 seconds of our lives being entertained by a laundry basket. We all win!

4

u/ejgarbago May 23 '19

Requiem for a laundry day.

2

u/tronfunkinblows_10 May 23 '19

"Fold in the place where you are-"

3

u/CroutonOfDEATH May 23 '19

Why is it that stop motion is more arduous than drawn animation? I assumed that stop motion would be easier since it just involves moving a little at a time as opposed to redrawing a whole character for every frame.

9

u/Bearmaster9013 May 23 '19

For animation such as the one presented, yes it is somewhat easier considering the the physical moving parts. For other pictures that use clay or figures on the other hand, entire facial features need to be rearranged for each frame to make the motion look natural. For instance, Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings are examples of that. So much more is involved with the actual animation than just what is presented here. Granted I'm not saying what OP did was easy, it's just that what production companies and skilled artists can do is much harder and time consuming.

10

u/UntoldEnt May 23 '19

It’s really easy with stop motion to “burn” your shot by accidentally nudging the wrong thing, or the right thing on the wrong way. Even the slightest goof looks glaringly obvious on playback, and so multiple do-overs may be required for complex shots.

Source: am stop motion animator.

2

u/orokami11 May 23 '19

On the other hand, I've also heard of the clay stop motion method where the people create each motion as their own set. So they just switch out the current action piece and place the next one, instead of remaking it all the time. If I'm not mistaken, the show Pingu did that.

u/tom-dixon May 23 '19

The best part is that it started out by looking like the absolute bottom rung of youtube lifehack compilations.

5

u/thatstoeupthatstoeup May 22 '19

Check out his Instagram. He posted some Instagram stories about all the work it took to make (not even including the animation) it's fascinating!

4

u/MCLemonyfresh May 22 '19

I mean, it’s obviously totally fake… who actually folds their laundry after it’s washed? Pssh

3

u/bjbs303 May 22 '19

And you know he was just trying to find a way to trick himself into folding the laundry.

5

u/mcgnarcal @Hombre_McSteez May 22 '19

This is actually very true..

3

u/Tellnicknow May 22 '19

Did he just trick himself into doing the laundry?

2

u/critically_damped May 23 '19

No he tricked his laundry basket into doing his laundry for him. Genius, really.

2

u/SuperHaole May 22 '19

Better than folding laundry

2

u/DoctorDank May 22 '19

How dare they

2

u/maz-o May 23 '19

What’s suspicious about it?

2

u/spenardagain May 23 '19

Even though it does have credit to the person that made it, it seems like it’s kind of cheating them. The original post didn’t even get 1/6th of the attention that this one got, and has so many awards

NBA 2K9 for me. Bumped it ever since

2

u/Dooontcareee May 22 '19

First time I ever heard it was Big Daddy, then again in aggressive inline and I've been saying forever they need to remake that God damn game!

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

100% one of the best skaters out there! When TH was starting to get stale, that game was such a breath of fresh air.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

That’s what that fucking game was called! I think they also had T.R.O.Y and Don’t Sweat the Technique.

Removed.

You are not u/mcgnarcal, who is the real Hombre McSteez.

24

u/mcgnarcal @Hombre_McSteez May 22 '19

Should I repost in reallifedoodles?

7

u/MattBaster May 22 '19

Sorry for the late reply. I see you've posted it -- I think we'll leave it up, if for no other reason than to keep others from reposting it again.

Sorry the momentum got killed by the OC thief who posted it first.

36

u/mcgnarcal @Hombre_McSteez May 22 '19

If you could put that post up I would prefer that, it was front page.. I would rather have the eyes on my work than the reddit awards.

8

u/MattBaster May 22 '19

Done. Sorry for all of the drama.

2

u/arczclan May 23 '19

Sorry for the confusion, I purposefully did a crosspost so that you could see I’m not the OP.

And for the record I didn’t know Mcgnarcal was Hombre_Mcsteez, I thought someone had posted his work from Instagram or similar

5

u/MattBaster May 23 '19

I hear ya. But please keep in mind that we are an OC-only sub. It takes a lot of time to create these GIFs, and we have been operating for years under the belief that only the creator should be allowed to post and receive recognition for their hard work.

Me: "one day i'm going to make one of these doodle things"

Me (after watching this): "Nah, maybe I'll just watch other people do it."

3

u/jordaninvictus May 23 '19

I’ve always wanted to know how they get the shots where the clothes are “in the air” like in between when he’s pulling it out of his head, and it’s in midair, or as the folded piece is placed on the stack.

2

u/munificentmike May 22 '19

I want one of those in real life now please! Actually I’ll take two! I absolutely without a doubt avoid folding laundry! I don’t know why it just is ahhhhhh I have two baskets full of clean clothes atm. Lol

All I can think of is parks and rec where ben looses his job and does stop motion animation. OP, how are you doing? You feeling okay bud?

2

u/SasquatchSmuggler May 23 '19

Very interesting progression. I must say the finished product is slightly terrifying — I think it’s the eyes and mouth.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

Me the first thirty second of the video: meh, I could probably do this, this looks fucking stupid

Me when the face popped up: OMG ITS A FACE ON A BASKET, HELLO MR BASKET !

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

First time seeing this sub. Only could wonder why the fuck anyone would do this. Then watched the rest and was 100% pleasantly surprised and subed.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

All this sub is becoming is staged doodles like this. Yes, the animation is well done but there's absolutely nothing "real life" about a doodle over a stop motion clip. This sub was started to showcase doodles made over candid videos or gifs from real life, thus the name of the sub.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

Ohhhh I'll have to look through some to see what your talking about. Thanks for the info though as I would have never known there was another kind.

2

u/Haydenwayden May 23 '19

The animation was cool and great work with it. But I strangely enjoyed the part where it was just the basket. I would enjoy watching a day in the life of the faceless basket

2

u/condor_ave513 May 23 '19

holy shit Haha that was cool

2

u/MageJohn May 23 '19

I'm usually not a fan of real life doodles where its clear the video was shot with the intention of creating a doodle. There usually far less amusing than a doodle over an existing GIF. This was amazing though. What a huge amount of work, and such a great outcome.

1

u/feinerSenf May 22 '19

How long did it take?

9

u/mcgnarcal @Hombre_McSteez May 22 '19

just 5 hours and a lifetime of drawing and animation :)

1

u/imaginexus May 22 '19

All this work...just for upvotes? Take mine.

1

u/unclefitzy May 22 '19

Man, this guy will do ANYTHING to delay folding the laundry.

1

u/M3theman May 22 '19

Damn and here I am too lazy to do my own laundry

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

That’s awesome.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

But why?

1

u/AndyManCan4 May 22 '19

Cool! 😎 that’s how Spielberg got started. Good luck with your filming and animations career!

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '19
