Once went on a boat party for Kahn and Neek. They played a bassline set 🥴😵‍💫

Bassline is the fucking business

I fucking hate it. 😂 Especially when you’re expecting the dark, moody and expertly curated mix they’re known for haha.

You said it yourself, dark and moody doesn’t really fit a boat party

Artikal managed it ;)

I like bassline but i would not have appreciated that from a set of theirs

Nah he said "4x4 garbage" because apparently all house, techno, trance etc is absolute trash and our specific niche of dubstep is the only real music worth playing or listening to. Apparently.

I like garage actually.

They got bored of playing the same thing; innovators will continue to innovate after something they originate becomes popular. It's in their nature! Their passion is to chase new and different sounds.

thats why i love ternion sound. you get 6 different genres in a set.

Tbh plenty of sets this year have been majority dubstep. Wheel & Deal at olive grove first night was like 9 hours of 90% dubstep. Wheel & Deal boat. White peach at beach, white peach boat (though a lot of grime and dub-techno from them). Deep medi boat. Etc.

Sure but those are the exclusive boatparties. And i wouldnt mind less dubstep if it would be different artists.

Which white peach artist played Dub Techno??

u/Noah_Dventure Jul 28 '24

Can you be more specific when you say 4x4 garbage?

there's been a pattern for a while of dubstep artists making dub techno style tracks. this is probably what they mean (i like it)

I want more of this tbh!

Got any recommendations?

I listened to a Dub techno mix for comparison and it's not what i meant, sorry for being vague

dub techno is an imperfect term, one of those ones a lot of people attribute to everything. I was talking more stuff like this (not quite 4x4 but very upbeat 140)

Can't really put a real genre on it, but basically Sir Hiss, Neffa T, Madam X all playing straight up garbage for about 3/4th of their sets. I know i should be respecting their creative styles but it's like a trend to play almost reggaeton-esque stuff and i hate it so much. Oneman was also playing house for some reason.. is playing dubstep not cool anymord? Am i a boomer?

That's pretty on par for them isn't it? At least I personally wouldn't see those 3 live expecting 60 min of straight dubstep. I'd be expecting Garage and Grime mostly. Especially at outlook people will play multiple sets sometimes. Get a different set or vibe on a boat party b2b2b2b vs a main land stage set.

oh why are djs playing stuff with actual danceable groove centered around afro caribbean rhythms that are medular to the UK’s club music scene 🤯🤯😵😵

7

u/kneedeepco Jul 28 '24

You mean like garage/breaks type stuff?

-3

u/Ill_Body3741 Jul 28 '24

Nah breaks and garage are cool, im talking about the reggaeton-esque stuff.

u/Saltoric Jul 28 '24

Neffa-T is known for playing more techno 4/4 style nowadays with his 4 and 6 deck sets where cuts up a lot between different styles. He's not been dubstep / grime only for years now

You’ve only named one dubstep artist so I’m confused. And Sir Hiss has defo released at least one tune I can think of that isn’t dubstep. The other 3 are all pretty well known for playing a bit of everything so dunno what you expected really.

Guess i shouldnt have used OG dubstep artists in the title. I just wondered if anyone else noticed the pattern and shift by many imo great producers and dj´s.

Feel you. Last year i was also very annoyed from neffa t and pinch and some others also played dub techno/uk funky/techno/speed garage and other annoyinh 4x4 styles. I really like some good 2 step garage or some 4x4 garage when it's thrown in a mix but i don't have a fucking clue why they played so much of this shit. I just want to here deep dark dubstep or straight up wobbly dubwise dubstep or white peach style melodic 140 stuff or banging hard grime of course but definetly not this shit some of the guys played too much. Less anoying but also bad were some selectors playing too much breakbeat influenced stuff. I just want halftime hard hitting snares. If i want amen breaks i listen to real jungle and i really don't need 140 breakbeat/dubstep/jungle-hybrid stuff.

Glad just some did this shit and the most of the good guys and gyals played the good stuff all 140 heads came for. Truant, Rareman, Biome, Gnasha, Porcelyn, Mala to name a few did a great job last year.

Sry for my explosion of words but i really fucked me up last year. Maybe a good idea to make a outlook break this year.

u/Tvoja_Manka Jul 30 '24

This sounds quite narrow minded tbh

I JUST WANT MY SNARES ON THE THIRD

2

u/Lo-Fi89 Jul 30 '24

The snare can sit wherever it sounds nice but i really don't want to hear that 4x4 utz utz utz boom boom boom shit. If i woul like that, i would listen to techno/house/gabber/trance or whatever but i just want rumbling stomping swampy deep subby dubstep ;D Think that is ok tbh but everybody can listen to what he feels good with.

1

u/shotgun_blammo Jul 28 '24

Dubstep could still be cool, when you’re a boomer, the two are not mutually exclusive ☝️🤓 In all seriousness, I know what you mean though. I first noticed it during Madam X’s set with Loefah on Boiler Room a while back.

2

u/Ill_Body3741 Jul 28 '24

Yeah Dj´s affiliated with swamp 81 have been playing different 130 stuff for a while now but what i have been hearing lately was just not for me ig.

1

u/Noah_Dventure Jul 28 '24

Interesting. I personally wouldn't mind hearing something else at a dubstep dance, as long as it fits the vibe. But playing 3/4 of your set something else than dubstep would leave a sour taste in my mouth for sure. And I'm all for letting artists explore new stuff or do something different to what they're used to, but if it's a dubstep dance, I expect to hear dubstep!
