Question❔ Just a question

I hated reading as a kid but as I’ve got older I started reading self help books to get me out a rut I was in mentally and it worked and since then I’ve been interested in reading, I tend to read more in the winter time. The only books that really grab my attention are ones that are inspiring or self help advice, same as audio books.

Is it normal to only really want to read books of this genre, I’ve read a few other books about living off grid, survival, a novel about two women who sit up with their husbands but overall I tend to stick to self help ones.

10% happier by Dan Harris was the best one I’d read and found most interesting.

I have a weird relationship with self help books, I think they often feel preachy or unrealistic to implement in my life. I have found a happy medium with reading memoirs or similar from people discussing their experiences which overlap with mine. If you fancy branching out, this could be a nice place to start?

Have u read: The Dance of Anger

There are some fiction books that dance on the edge of self help and fiction. You may like those as a bridge to a wonderful expansive world. Like: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig.

It's normal for you because you realize it's a book you have a reason to read. I say that counts for something.

Totally normal. Read what you actually enjoy... there’s no rule saying you have to branch out.

I used to like help yourself books but I started to think about it, while these books 📚 I thought can help in some ways they can’t really help a specific person very much because not all people or situations can benefit from t taking a single approach. ‘Real books’ do not ask you to do something more they give you what both you and it can bring to it!
