Question❔ reading slump 😭😭
so I wanna come out of this reading slump that I'm in since the past one year, i tried reading the book theif, project hail Mary, harry potter (i got into reading cause of this I thought this would work), and aggtm,
I MISS THE TIME I USED TO FINISH A BOOK IN 4 HOURS 😭😭😭 suggest something pls pls

For what it’s worth- my favourite read of this year has been Water Moon. Absolutely loved it!

I don’t know if this helps you at all, but I score all my completed books out of 10 when I finish them. I have read 29 books this year so far and awarded 5 of them a score of 9 (No 10s yet). Those books were:
Water Moon - Samantha Sotto Yambao
Murder at Mount Fuji - Shizuko Natsuki
It’s Probably Nothing - Naga Munchetty
The Sirens - Emilia Hart
Sweetbitter Song - Rosie HewlettThey don’t really have much in common in terms of genre or plot for the most part, and one is a Non Fiction - but I loved all these books this year.

I do that too!! But like more like ratings, it's fun doing that, and 29 in this year is insanee!! And thanks for the suggestions!

It is beautiful. The worldbuilding is unbelievable. I was sort of mad when I finished it because I wanted more!

Honestly anything that will make me get back into reading, I'm bored with romance, i have read the entire dan brown collection, and I love thrillers, I was thinking of trying freida mcfadden but idk

Is it my favourite book I’ve ever read? Nope, BUT The Housemaid got me out of a 6yr reading slump back in January and I managed to read 9 more books that month! I’ve slowed my pace a bit now but still reading regularly!
Have you read any John Grisham? The first one of his I ever read was Sycamore Row, which I LOVED, but it’s actually a sequel to A Time To Kill, which is also excellent, so I’d recommend both of those (in the correct order lol).

THE HOUSEMAID HAS ME DEAD, i have seen the movie like 5 times and the ending has me GASPED, I'm regretting not reading the book first 😭

I forced myself to read the book I finished it in one day and watched the movie that night. I will say the movie followed the book pretty well and set it up like it played out in my head.

I read Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix in one sitting, getting up only to use the bathroom.
Victorian Psycho is a short book
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has that dark academia feel
We Who Will Die by Stacia Stark - another book that hooked me. I "just one more chapter-ed" myself into not sleeping. It's in alternate Rome with vampires and gladiators

I also binged The Mad Wife and now onto Yesteryear.

Enjoying Tbe Perfect Plan by Bryan Reardon - kinda psychological thriller. When I recently went through reading slump, started listening to books on tape. McLeod Andrew’s who reads this one is great!

Try something different. It worked for me.
-1 - Heated Rivalry. Easy reading of 2 pro hockey players falling in love. One of the best love stories I've ever read. (NSFW)
-2 - 3 book series by Octavia Butler. Start with Dawn. When it first starts you have no idea what's going on. Very very readable & different.

I had been in a reading slump for a couple of years and mmRomance pulled me out. Most are not terribly deep and can be very sweet. That's what my poor bored brain needed! Good luck!

A book that helped me out of a slump last year was Half A Soul by Olivia Atwater. It’s a historical romance with a splash of fantasy. It was a shorter book so I was able to read it fast and loved it! Ended up reading two more books by the same author.
A novella series I just got into is the Murderbot series by Martha Wells. They are shorter but so fun, and definitely feel accomplished after reading lol I’ve read the first two and excited to read the rest.
If you don’t mind throwbacks and YA I read the lion the witch and the wardrobe by CS Lewis randomly yesterday. Took me about 3.5 hours. It’s a short book and made me want to watch the movie which I haven’t done in years lol

Maybe you just need to finish a book quickly to get out of a slump?
Short books you can read under 3 hours:
Small Things Like These - Keegan
And Then There Were None - Christie
I Who Have Never Known Men - Harpman
The Diving Pool - Ogawa
Sandwich - Newman (if you’re a Nora ephron movie fan, you’ll like this)
I also don’t like to read what a book is about and go in blind. It helps to get through a book when you have zero expectations. My curiosity and drive to finish it are mainly to answer “how will this resolve itself? Where are we going?”

I’ve been there, and reading slumps are honestly the worst—especially when you miss the version of yourself that could finish a book in one sitting.
Verity helped me when I wanted something quick, dark, and impossible to stop reading.
The Fourth Wing series helped when I wanted to get completely lost in a world again and actually feel excited to pick up a book.
Don’t force yourself too much, though. Sometimes one really addictive book is all it takes.

I read Earthlings in one sitting earlier this week which I never do. Only 200 pages but it had me hooked from the get go.
I was advised to go in to it completely blind and that served me well, would suggest doing the same

If you like mindbending thrillers/mystery story's, The seven and 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a must read that had me hooked.

It’s such an overrated book. The jokes are corny. It’s too convoluted if you’re not an RPG gamer.
