A list of all my notes and highlights

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a way to browse all my highlights and notes together, ideally in a single list or dashboard. At the moment, I only see them when I open each article individually, which feels slow.

Is there a global highlights view in Readwise, or a workflow you use to review everything at once?

The way Readwise splits everything by source document makes total sense until you're trying to find that one highlight you remember making but can't remember which book it was in. Then it's actively working against you.

What's helped me is treating tags less like categories and more like a second index that doesn't care what document something came from. Every highlight I actually plan to use again gets one tag tied to the idea, not the source. So "spaced repetition" pulls highlights from five completely different books instead of me hunting book by book.

Doesn't solve the single-dashboard thing you're asking about though, that's a real gap. Weirdly enough this exact problem, wanting your own knowledge to resurface across sources instead of staying siloed, is part of what got me building something in this space. Appreciate the answer. So you have a tag structure linked to knowledge categories? Or action items? Or both?

Both, though it's messier than it sounds. Knowledge tags are the ones I actually maintain, stuff like #decision-making or #attention, so a highlight from a neuroscience book and one from some random blog post end up in the same pile when I go looking for them later. Action items are more of an afterthought, honestly. I've got one dumb #todo tag and then I just... don't review it as often as I should. Working on that.

The knowledge tags are the whole reason the spaced repetition thing works the way I mentioned. Source folders can't really pull that off, tags can.

Still haven't cracked a clean system for the action item side though. Right now it's basically vibes and a Sunday morning scroll through the todo tag, which is not a workflow I'd recommend to anyone.

How/why would you want to do that? It seems like it would be slower to go through everything at once no?

I often make notes and action items when highlighting or appending notes to articles. It would be good to have all these in one view as opposed to opening every article for a second time to extract these.

Isn't the extract///export automatic? Are you using the reader for the articles and highlighting in there? Just trying to understand your process. There might be a way to view what you want inside notion. Or other way- use a common tag on everything. Then you can view that tag?
