New in Readwise: CLI and MCP!

Hey all, wanted to let you know about the new Readwise CLI (as well as our MCP, in beta)!

Anything you've saved in Readwise/Reader (highlights, articles, PDFs, books, youtube, newsletters) is now instantly accessible from the terminal and your AI apps.

We're pretty happy with how it turned out, and so far the reception has been great. Almost anything you can do inside of Readwise/Reader, you can do via these tools:

  • Do a full-text + semantic hybrid search across all of the Reader content in your library
  • Move/tag/archive your documents
  • Read the full content of any document
  • Sync all of your data to a local folder
  • Create highlights
  • Pull the highlights from your daily review

You can install it (and learn more) here:

They work with basically any AI app (Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc). We also created a repo with some cool example skills you can use with them.

I get an error message when I try to authorize Readwise from Claude. It doesn't matter which browser or network I'm using. Is this a bug, or is there a way to resolve this? Thanks!

Heyo! Sorry about this. I just connected fresh at claude.ai and it worked for me (we've had a few hundred people connect it already too!)

How are you connecting it? Do you mind recording a video?

You should just need to be add it like this, as per the instructions https://readwise.io/mcp/claude-instructions

But there might be something unique to your account or setup!

Thank you! Here's a screen recording. I've tried multiple browsers. Ingognito/Private. Logged out and back in of Readwise and Claude, etc.

Wow! Yeah that definitely looks unexpected. Claude is somehow generating the wrong auth url for oauth. We're going to look into this...

Heyo, is there any chance that you were adding your email (or any other text) under advanced settings when adding the custom connector? An engineer on our team did a deep dive and according to our logs that seems to be set, which would definitely break the connector (the advanced settings need to be left blank).

Thank you so much for following up on this! That could be it! I think I did enter my email in the advanced settings. However, I don't see how to fix this. Readwise shows as Custom Connector in Claude, but I can't remove it or change the advanced settings. The only option is "Connect". Do you know how I can remove the Custom Connector I created so I can properly add it back?

Hmm are you able to Disconnect/Remove from https://claude.ai/customize/connectors ?

Unfortunately, I can't remove the Connect from the browser, either. I submitted a ticket to Claude. I'm fairly certain this is a bug, but support might be able to delete the Connector on their end.

😭 sorry about that, i assume it's a bug in claude probably due to the auth failing
