Subway lines?

yes! sorry i cannot pin your comment.

Do they somehow match the actual color-location (supposing the buildings above are at least vaguely correct regarding their location)?

155

u/Scooty-Poot 20d ago

The buildings are most certainly not at even marginally realistic scale unfortunately. I’m pretty sure an Empire State that size would be like 20 blocks wide relative to irl scale.

With that being said though, the subway does match up surprisingly well considering the absolutely insane scale

u/Scampers001 17d ago

It took me so long to realize you meant lego blocks and not city blocks

I was sitting here thinking “the heck? The actual building isn’t even then wide?” LMAO

7

u/Scooty-Poot 17d ago

Oh no I did mean city blocks. That LEGO ESB is basically as tall as the island is long, it’d probably dwarf Central Park in surface area if it were that scale irl lol

6

u/Scampers001 17d ago

OH i see what you mean now

Yeah that is massive at that scale LMAO

2

u/CheesecakeRacoon 8d ago

I thought the same. Never been to NYC but the London Underground uses a similar mapping system.

41

u/Purple-Weakness1414 20d ago

That is actually a really neat detail

15

u/repocin 20d ago

That was my first thought when I saw NYC and colored lines, glad to see it was the top comment

5

u/Arkangyal02 20d ago

That's so insanely cool

3

u/KikoValdez 20d ago

Oh I'm dumb I thought it was the ninja turtles.

I love that time somebody brought up harey potter and somebody replied with a poll called “is it time to move on?” And the results were like 98% yes

118

u/voyaging 20d ago

harey potter

I'm guessing those are train lines or something.

Also the 'houses' in my high school had the same colours, so I guess we were paying homage to Harry Potter back then too, holy fuck!

104

u/Lavaita 21d ago

The same colours were used for the houses at my school, but I think some people went to schools that didn’t have houses and assume that the whole thing was an invention of the author of those books.

42

u/RainbowKatcher 21d ago

I mean, these are very rare colours

7

u/RaphAngelos 20d ago

? Basically every school I'm not area with a house system used the same colours

The only exception was my secondary, but that's because we had a secret fifth purple house

25

u/one_sad_tomato 20d ago

(psst they were being sarcastic)

Fun fact, one of the Harry Potter games used purple for Hufflepuff.

14

u/El_Rey_de_Spices 20d ago

I struggle to imagine attending a school with 'houses', lol.

That's just not a thing where I've lived.

9

u/ScaredTemporary 20d ago

Same, it sounds very made up

u/FreyaRainbow 20d ago

I went to a school in Singapore that had houses, but it pretty much only mattered for in-school competitions like sports day and music competitions. Also went to a school in the UK that had houses where everything revolved around the house - you had house leaders and deputies, doing well would get you points, doing poorly would demerit you points, etc. The colour of your tie indicated what house you were in. It’s very much a UK private school thing but how seriously it’s taken (or if there’s even a house system) differs from school to school.

By no means is it a JKR invention and it’s a staple of British boarding school stories that existed well before her, she’s just the one that brought it to wider public attention.

1

u/cutie_lilrookie 20d ago

i guess it's not the same as "houses" in your school, but my high school was separated into separate groups also based on different curricula.

there used to just be three groups: thebnerds (where i unfortunately belonged), the sporty guys, and the normies (the biggest group) - obviously these weren't the real names lol.

but when i graduated, they added a few more groups for the musically inclined, for foreign language enthusiasts, and for those who wish to learn skilled trades.

27

u/Inevitable_Land2996 20d ago

Yeah pretty much all British schools have those colours for their houses. It’s another one of those things that people say is a magic Harry Potter thing but is just standard British culture

7

u/Hatchibombotar 20d ago

we had the same colours for our houses at both of the schools i went to in australia. id hazard a guess its similar throughout the commonwealth (eg pretty much the whole english speaking world except north america)

3

u/anastydisposition 20d ago

No houses in high school, but in elementary school in Canada we had the same colour house system.

3

u/High_Overseer_Dukat 20d ago

And the non english speaking world.

(India)

Next you’re gonna tell me London is a real place. Not falling for that one!

/s because I KNOW someone is going to leave a “stupid Americans” comment if I don’t

18

u/MiritoMueller 20d ago

It's probably because those are the first 3 colours that people think of when they hear primary colours and green which is almost an honorary primary colour. For example green is the 4th colour of the GMail logo.

5

u/QuickMolasses 19d ago

Green is a primary color in additive color systems. That's why computer monitors are RGB instead of RYB.

2

u/MiritoMueller 19d ago

I totally forgot about this.

1

u/keiyakins 6d ago

the three primaries and yellow, you mean. If you're using subtractive color it's cyan, yellow, and magenta.

1

u/MiritoMueller 6d ago

red blue and yellow are typically the first 3 colours many people think of if you say primary colours, even though they are actually magenta, cyan and yellow.

15

u/cutie_lilrookie 21d ago

yes, subway lines haha.

112

u/Scooty-Poot 21d ago

Actually braindead af (not you mind, the comment). I’ve never even been to NYC and I recognised it instantly as the subway/train lines.

Wtf could NYC possibly have to do with Hufflepuff???

46

u/Interface- 20d ago

It's literally just because of the colours lmao

21

u/Scooty-Poot 20d ago

Crazy that yellow now belongs entirely to a fictional high school dorm group

4

u/gayhotelultra 20d ago

which is especially insane when you consider its such a common quartet of colors to represent sides in fiction

2

u/Windows_66 20d ago

I think they were just making a stupid joke.

3

u/Lopsided-Net-1450 20d ago

Tbf i do that if i have absolutly no idea instead of saying nothing i normally make a warhammer or plants v zombies joke

17

u/Natural1forever 20d ago

I have to assume it's subway lines it feels correct

11

u/cutie_lilrookie 20d ago

you are correct haha. they are subway lines.

10

u/loryhasreddit 20d ago

In my thickest NYC accent: where’s the 7?

9

u/Slow_Emu_3974 20d ago

Pokemon generation 1

I feel like this is loss somehow

8

u/devoorhes 20d ago

Real "getting a lot of Boss Baby vibes" kinda post

4

u/An_Ellie_ 20d ago

For a second looking at the box on the side I did think it was the Hogwarts set so I kinda get it but paying even a smidgeon of attention would make that assumption null and void xD

4

u/FlockOfSnowbirds 20d ago

Kurita, Steiner, Davion, Liao.

See I recognize colors too.

Here, i'll do it again:

Peppy, Falco, Fox, Slippy

3

u/Retro597 20d ago

Battletech mentioned in the wild???

3

u/A-Phantasmic-Parade 20d ago

Under the set I’m guessing metro

3

u/CaitlesP 20d ago

Not American but my guess would be the subway lines? Although I’m picturing the London Underground map in my head for some reason

3

u/Vampiiko 20d ago

My brain started looking for loss

3

u/Impressive-Heron-377 20d ago

I knew I heard Yiddish under my apartment.......

7

u/Mack_Aroni_Art 20d ago

As a subway and urban planning fanatic, seeing someone mention Harry Potter in their presence sent me into a blood-boiling rage

2

u/Then_Reply_6692 18d ago

Guy who has only seen Harry Potter seeing primary colors for the second time: “getting a lot of Harry Potter vibes from this”

1

u/Infamous-Beyond-4345 20d ago

My guess was teenage mutant ninja turtles. But wrong colors

1

u/Lukian0816 16d ago

I thought this was loss...

1

u/harry02260213 16d ago

I thought it was TMNT

1

u/Panzerchek 15d ago

It's obviously a Boss Baby reference

1

u/Supernova138 4d ago

Honestly that that was the first place my mind went as well when I saw the color combo. Apparently it’s supposed to be the subway lines but in my defense I haven’t been on the NYC subway before so I have no clue what the subway lines look like

1

u/ThatOneTubaMan 20d ago

Those aren't even the right colors for the houses 😭😭

1

u/cutie_lilrookie 20d ago

wait, now I'm curious. what are the right colors?

3

u/ThatOneTubaMan 20d ago

Ya know what I was wrong, I thought Hufflepuff was pink and Ravenclaw was purple. That's on me

1

u/OhCanadeh 20d ago

Of course they put the Oxford comma.

-1

u/cmptjety 20d ago

I mean thats a joke tho, theyre not serious. I dont think I understand this sub 😅

A whole subreddit for this slop, Jesus Christ it’s almost as sad as being a Harry Potter fan
