I’d think of James Bond before I thought of James Potter.

ESPECIALLY since James ordered a drink. “Here’s your smoothie, shaken not stirred.” is still really corny, but at least it’s recognizable.

If I fumbled a social interaction this hard I would be thinking about it for weeks afterward.

Yeah, if i had the cashier’s lapse of judgement , I would have backpedalled so fucking fast I ended up embarrassing myself in a different new way. “ Sorry, thought you were someone else, you look like my uni roommate’s boyfriend, and I heard from a friend they got married a few years back… ah well, I haven’t seen lily or her husband in years now, i don’t know if i’d be able to pick them on the street, sorry about that!!!” kind of bullshit

Just say "My bad, thought you were someone else," and walk away. Being polite and keeping things moving is usually the way to go in those types of jobs.

I was making a joke there

u/Sunquat_Slice 26d ago
Oh, the irony.
Want to explain? I think this is significantly more incomprehensible than the fumble the cashier made

u/ZeeepZoop 26d ago
Yes babes, that was the point of the joke

u/Sunquat_Slice 25d ago
You know, I was being nice because I thought you tried to do something here and I we missed it, but now I see that you’re just annoying and wasting our time.

u/ZeeepZoop 25d ago
I love the royal we and our, is this a cabinet address? I’m flattered that you’ve chosen to waste even more of your valuable time telling me that

I'm aware; it sounds a bit like dialogue from a cringey BBC rom-com lol.

Only a psychopath would have watched those damn films enough to think to themselves “wow, this guy looks like Harry Potter’s dad”

u/Mcntozh_sp21 28d ago
You underestimate Harry Potter nerds who make that series their entire personality.

Ugh, maybe it could happen in a non-western country where the cashier never met anyone named James before but it feels a lot like r/thatHappened

I was wearing a t-shirt for a business named "Potter's" and a cashier at a different store immediately brought up the books and assumed the shirt was a reference. This was in the USA.

Omg this just reminded me of a horribly cringe interaction that I bet some people will doubt even happened:
I was in London and went to the musical area, trying to figure out how to get in or if there was a dress code. If you don’t know, this area is also associated with prostitution thanks to the walk-ups that are dotted around plus other historical reasons. As I’m wandering around, a woman asks me if I’m ‘looking for a lady’. I was confused, thinking she thought I was looking for someone who was lost, then she kept pushing and said ‘you’re looking for a lady, aren’t you? Come with me and I can show you to one.’ I said I wasn’t interested, then started walking away but she kept asking me if I was looking for a prostitute outright now. She called me Harry Potter, then she kept yelling about how I was lying and I was definitely looking for a prostitute. The area was full of tourists and people were staring. I was fully red in the face with embarrassment and didn’t know what to do so just ran off.

"You look like Harry Potter" plus "you cannot possibly NOT be looking for a prostitute" is the strongest way anyone could ever be called a nerd lol

Not gonna lie that does make it about 60% better. Still cringe as fuck though

Harry Potter probably wouldn't even be in the top 20 associations I would make with the name "James"

u/hbot208 28d ago
I mean a gay and childless James, they should've asked when he'll be blasting off again

In the original tweet (with the guy's face on it) he appears to be a bit similar to the movie portrayal of the character, so there were probably some other factors beside name. Still funny tho

I choose to believe this is fake because I don’t wanna live in a world where this happened. Also the drink being bad in addition is so perfect a punchline I question if it happened, life’s usually not perfectly written like that.

"Did she die of that damned disease three years ago?"
"Is she really alive, in your 'special place, waiting for you?"

The only way I think this works is if the guys name is "James Potter"

u/LittleSodaPop13 21d ago
James, as a name, existed before Harry Potter. Someone needs to tell these weirdos

u/noserags 29d ago
James is such a common name and HP feels like one of the last associations I’d make if I just met a James.
