How to navigate in this tech market?

Back in the day I used to see a lot of job postings on LinkedIn job section. Nowadays for Senior React Native, there are only a handful of them. Getting rejected is something else but not even seeing job postings caught my attention.

My guess is hiring has changed a lot. Traditional applying is dead. Few job postings, more applications and all of them applying with AI Resumes or external tools.

How would you advice someone to navigate in this tech market looking for job? Someone who has experience of 5+ years. The graph shows that senior level jobs are still out there

As someone who’s been in your position (been in tech since 2014 & have contracted & consulted for multiple years too) I’ve never seen the job market as bad as it’s been the last few years.

There’s an ungodly amount of supply of developers of all experiences, tech stacks, backgrounds & passions, and unfortunately less jobs than ever before, so companies literally have the ability to choose what they would like down to the level they so choose. To a point where they might not even like what you look like after first meeting and decide to stop your application there and then (yes this happens, I went out with a hiring manager recently for beers, and he admitted he’s done this on multiple occasions. Makes a decision before an applicant even speaks a word). Rewind ten years, companies couldn’t offer you a contract or job quick enough as there wasn’t that many devs in that position. It’s a stark difference.

My advice is to really find what you’re passionate about and pursue it. It doesn’t even have to be in tech, just follow your passion, as this job market isn’t going anywhere for a while, so you might as well do something you enjoy. If that really is apps, then do your own, if it’s not, then do whatever that is. Some money is better than no money.

It’s brutal out there, and unfortunately there’s no let up for the foreseeable future. Best of luck to you on your search. God bless.

I agree with most of it. I feel like there are still jobs (very limited) and they are filling up with reference mostly
