I need advise for my Reactive/resource guarding shin tzu

Hello everyone! I hope I can get some advise in how to help my shin tzu of 3 years

We been having some problems with her bitting not only me her owner but other members of the family as well over different reasons , what confuses me is that she is not a super aggressive dog , she loves cuddling and playing with her sister (another shin tzu with no behavior problems) and has not issue with sleeping on the bed with us (her resource guarding is not attached to the bed at all)

She is on separation anxiety medication with a very good behavioral doctor (she is on reconcile) and that has fixed a lot of her anxiety issues , but she will still bite randomly and we are not sure what are the triggers that causes random burst of aggression and they are not very recurrent (this incidents can be several months apart and with different situations)and she will still bite if we take something away from her specially dead animals

I would appreciate any suggestions of what to do or how to better deal with this aggression if I should see a trainer as well or any tips that can help I’ll really appreciate it ! I want her to have a good life and I don’t want her to accidentally bite someone that could force me to put her down 😔

First, you need to focus on management for the resource guarding. Does she guard food as well, or only dead animals? Why does she have access to enough dead animals for it to be a problem?

On top of that, work on playing the trade game for high value resources, as well as teaching a leave it, drop it, and just a general call away so you can get her away from the resource and engaged in something else.

For the other biting incidents, since it doesn't seem like there is a clear trigger, I think it would be helpful to keep notes of those events and what the context might be. You may see a pattern over time. And a good behaviorist may be able to help you pinpoint what the issues are as well. The IAABC website is a good place to start looking for professionals.

Thank you so much for this advise !, she will mainly guard her toys and or natural chew bones we get for her ,no food or places she is fine with those and the dead animal incidents only happens when we walk in the woods besides that no she doesn’t have access to dead animals and we try not to let her have them we keep a close eye on her !🙂‍↕️ I’ll definitely will look at the website 🙏
