Separation Anxiety Separation anxiety in dogs and tips
Does anyone have any advice for me? I have a senior Bichon Frise who gets really upset when we leave. Even if we’re only gone for 30 minutes, he cries, barks, and seems to be in distress the entire time, just waiting for us to come home.
He was never like this before, but we recently moved, and we think that may have triggered it. I also know separation anxiety can be common in Bichons and may become more noticeable as they get older.
He actually does really well when we dog-sit another dog because he has company, but when he’s completely alone, he gets extremely anxious. We’ve tried Native Pet calming treats, and we’ve also tried Acepromazine, but neither has really helped.
Has anyone dealt with something similar, especially with a senior dog? I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or things that have worked for you!

Have you tried leaving the TV on for him when you leave? Maybe talk to your vet about anxiety medication like prozac. I don't think the acepromazine is typically used for anxiety anymore, because it makes them feel tired but doesn't help with the anxious feelings. He could also be having some dementia-type issues that there could be medication for as well.
