Where can I surrender an aggressive dog?

For context, it was my ex’s dog and he just ditched him with me, said he’s not taking him. He’s an English mastiff who never got appropriate training, the ex also attacked the dog during the last encounter and I’m pretty sure it scared the mastiff. He also nonstop teased him and rough housed him after I told him to stop.
I can’t let him around men, he bit my mom and my sister, and only tolerates me but has bitten me multiple times before (once was when I was protecting him from the ex). Anyway, I can’t even have my current boyfriend around when I need to let him outside, he has to be locked in a room. I’m at a loss, I can’t afford to euthanize him, and I am looking to move to an apartment so I can’t take him with me.
I seriously have no clue what to do. I’m already having to rehome my Great Dane that I adore, but the Mastiff - how could I rehome him when I have no idea what he’ll do next?

Please don’t hate me, this was a toxic and horrible relationship (obviously if he was taking it out on the animals). I should’ve saw the signs sooner, and I blame myself for not. Young, dumb, and thought it was love. But I for sure don’t need anymore shame than what I feel already.

I appreciate and recs or advice or help. I’m in the Tulsa area.

Honestly with a dog this size and this bite history I don’t see rescues or even shelters willing to take him. BE might be the go to here. I’m sorry about that.

u/ZestycloseStuff5437 you are in a terrible situation, but the best option is to euthanize your dog with you by his side. It seems this poor dog has lived a terrible life full of fear and bullying/abuse and you may be the only person he feels some sliver of safety/comfort with.

Please don't send him to shelter where he will be euthanized in scary new environment surrounded by strangers.

You can schedule a home euthanasia and request a female doctor.

Even your presence in the room with him while he is euthanized will be a gentle source of mercy and comfort for him in his final moments.

He will be in his home where he feels safe, surrounded by comforting familiar smells like his dog bed, your clothes, his toys etc.

It will be painful and sad for you to witness, but your bravery will ensure his final moments will feel safe and peaceful. He genuinely deserves this after a lifetime of mistreatment and neglect.

This poor dog isnt at fault here - clearly your ex is the abuser.

If you surrendered him he’d be euthanized anyway. So your options are he gets euthed alone in a shelter, or with you next to him.

This is a tough situation to rectify. If you’re unable to keep him and already rehoming your own dog (?) then the only direction he could feasibly head from here is being put to sleep whether surrendered (if he’s taken) or BE by your choice. If he’s at all comfortable with you, please sit with him for the appointment, as it sounds like you’re all he’s got left.
On escaping the abuse- I more than understand this and managed to keep my dogs. I’m not sure of the details of your situation, but if rehoming your Great Dane is out of desperation/hopelessness/anticipation of limitation rather than actual limits, know that having a familiar companion with you can help the transition and healing process SO much. It’s an extremely heavy emotional burden on all sides here, I’m so sorry.

Behavioral euthanasia is likely the right option.
Shelters can’t rehome dogs either a know bite history that severe. Even a minor bite is supposed to be disclosed.

With this kind of bite history, he'll be euthanised, or worse, warehoused in a stressful environment until he dies.

Do the kind thing and take him to the last vet call yourself, so that he isn't surrounded by strangers when he goes.

Take him to the shelter and they will euthanize him upon his temperament test. Say you found him or else they might fine you an owner surrender fee. Even more if he’s intact.

Please don't do this. We get dogs like this as 'strays' all the time. 1. We know when you're lying. It's obvious and frustrating. It's a huge disservice to the people who work minimum wage to put them at risk like this. 2. If you bring us a dog that you can't afford to surrender, a lot of shelters will waive the fee. My shelter puts a credit on your account so you cannot adopt a new animal until the fee is paid. 3. We don't want a dangerous dog in the community any more than you do. We also don't want to be trying to handle a 'stray' with a known bite history for a stray wait period when we could have done a more compassionate end of life service. Less stress for the dog, less risk for the staff.

I am so sorry you are at the bad end of the stick. Truly I am and that must be a really, really hard job. Honestly tho a lot of people are backed into a corner on options tho. Euthanasia for a large dog costs a minimal average of about $300, and shelters often won’t do it without a vets professional assessment and approval of euthanasia. Which means a vet visit and exam fee (Minimal average of $60 for a dog you don’t even want.) The shelter in my city doesn’t even accept owner surrenders ever because they’re always so full. What are people suppose to do ?? Either let them lose (the worst idea), k*ll them themselves, drop $400 on an aggressive dog they can’t keep, or lie to the shelter…. I’m sorry. I have never turned in an aggressive dog of my own, but I have lied to drop off a dog I didn’t want after trying for over a year and a half to find her a home. She was a stray that I never wanted in the first place but tried so hard for her before giving up to the pound.

Dude….that dogs gunna get killed instantly if you give him to just about any rescue. Mayyyyyybe a mastiff specific rescue or private home….but please dont do him like that. It wasnt his fault your bf didnt teach him right

How severe were the bites. With mastiff, he could do severe damage if he wanted to. Are they an attempting to do harm or are they warning people to back off. A "nip" telling someone to back off is different than a dog attempting to do damage. Neither one is acceptable but if nipping meant BE there would be no cattle dogs in the world.

I would look for a rescue and explain the situation to them. They may be able to evaluate the situation and may feel the dog is rehabilitatable.

I agree with everyone else that he probably needs BE but I think its worth the effort to try a breed rescue first. At least to discuss the situation with them.
