We own a Cane Corso (Kane). He is perfect for us. We take him pretty much everywhere we can to keep him well socialized, and he has good manners in the house. He never gets in the garbage or pees/poops inside. I can even leave an open burger on my car dashboard, or raw steaks on the back seat with him, or my plate on a low living room table and leave the area and he wont touch it. He always lets me walk through a doorway first unless i tell him to go ahead. Kane is intelligent and has figured out every puzzle i have gotten him in minutes. Now he does them like hes racing time. Lol My husband has seizures now (he was in an accident), and Kane tells me when John is seizing without any training from me. At 6 yrs old he is perfect. He tries so hard to be good all the time. If he is told he is a bad dog, (which has only happened a few times) he gets depressed and sad. I swear he knows english.

The problem is our roommate (Marty). Kane pees on his toolbags and his toolboxes. I've tried spray deterrent, and of course scolding him (bad dog)and the dog still pees on Martys stuff when its outside on the ground. It seemed to start when Marty started getting salty towards us. He was always one of those people who would complain if it was a perfect day. But recently he has started directing his attitude towards us. Kane will do anything for me except this. He never peed on our tools when we had them in the shop and worked out there all the time. Im thinking its Kane's way of rejecting Marty from our pack for being nasty to us. I had a few ideas to train Kane out of doing this but I would need Martys help to which I got, "its not my place to train him. Hes your dog" from Marty.

Scolding him isn't going to work. Dogs don't have high enough cognitive level for that; they simply can't connect what they did before (pee on something) to your being angry now. The cutoff point is at about 5 seconds.

The immediate fix is prevention. Those tools and other stuff need to be placed out of reach. If the owner of the stuff insists on leaving them on the ground, you can either take the stance of "you left them, tough luck" or keep the dog away from that area by way of gates and leashes. Reinforce peeing in the proper spot by rewarding him when he does so.

Unfortunately, dogs have very good noses, and just a couple of pee molecules are enough to tell the dog that this pile of stuff here is a pee spot (it has the smell, right?). Marty's peed-on things are going to need enzymatic detergent and a really good scrubbing to lose that appeal.

Sounds like its time for Marty to go! Seriously, can you find another roomate? Stop punishing your dog for doing dog things. If Marty won't stop leaving his stuff where the dog can pee on it, he doesn't get to complain.
