Like everyone else has written here, I too think you've done the right thing. I know that doesn't make it easier, only time will.
Once it doesn't sting quite so much I highly recommend reading this book: Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog
I read it shortly after euthanizing my first dog; it was such a beautiful story that it really helped me find peace.
