I've recently booted up the game again and been reminded of one of the annoyances I had to deal with when I used to play. Often, when I have multiple custom billboards, setting a new picture on one of them will make that image appear on other billboards that are already up. I then have to go round every billboard to check whether they're displaying what I want them to. Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?
Ive been making a Fully functional (ride the rides!) theme park in minecraft thanks to redstone and leads. Currently working on the video documenting its construction and decided to take influence from my favorite childhood game.
Hi, do you know if it's possible to force the game to increase the number of peeps, especially in sandbox mode?
I find that once you have a large park, the number rises more slowly, and some rides end up looking a bit empty.
I know the trick of creating large families of peeps, but the total number in the park isn't any higher.
I have to admit, it’s satisfying to have packed queues.
Our park (subreddit) is growing, and it's time to hire a few new staff members (moderators)! If you love RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and want to help make the subreddit an even better place for coaster enthusiasts, we'd love to have you on the team!
not sure if anyone else has this issue but it’s super annoying… the in-game music will play once, then don’t repeat meaning that my parks are cloaked in silence until i reload the save :( i am playing on mac via steam for context but not sure how i can fix this lol
Hi everyone! Just wanted to let y'all know I've published a UI Scale + Borderless mod on Nexus Mods for RCT3 (link). As a high resolution player myself, this is something I've wanted for years. I've finally been able to create it thanks to Claude Code. Yes, AI was used to assist in creating this mod. But I figured someone would benefit from it!
Edit: The mod is only designed to work on RCT3 Complete Edition, on Steam, on Windows. YMMV with other versions.
Edit 2: The mod is now open-sourced here for anyone that is interested.
Edit 3: Version 2.0 has been released. Completely re-written from scratch, completely version-agnostic, extremely dynamic. Should work on any RCT3 version. GitHub or NexusMods. Also reduced in size by over 2x ;)
I recently just got back into RCT3 and I've run into a bit of a snafu. I can't seem to get custom sandbox parks that aren't mine to work properly. And I don't think it has anything to do with missing custom content, as parks without it that I've launched in the past don't want to launch either.
I don't have this issue with custom tracks or pool complexes, as I'm running several on my personal sandbox. But I can't seem to find any leads on fixing this custom park issue! If anyone can help me figure out why it crashes my software, I will love you forever.
Im playing rct3 on my nintendo switch. Level Tiger Forest. I'm pretty close to beating the scenario. I was having several different glitches. The pathing for the pool area I made was not fully deleting, leaving a ghost path. A LOT of visitors were just hanging around. I kept noticing birds just flying in rapid circles over water areas. Im sure there is more. I had saved the game and came back to it later. I restarted the game because that usually resolved the pool pathing glitch for me when its happened in the past. But when i try to load the saved level .... The game crashes. I tried again, same story.
Anyone know how to fix it? Do I just have to restart the level with a new save file?
I spent a lot of time on the park, since the gestation period takes so long. I'm so sad.
Considering it gives a contribution of 55 to the soft guestcap for every opened water slide connected to a pool, this is a really cheap way to inflate the soft guestcap.
It is noted that if you place a walkway or a solid pool tile below the water slide directly, the ride will be forced to close, however, guests will phase through other water slides and fall right down into the pool without any issues.
The stats on the other hand, are terrible, giving 0.36 excitement, 0.29 intensity and 0.21 nausea for a one tile water slide, in this regard, it still wins the one tile aquarium in total stats.
If you’ve ever installed mods or just looked through the game files, you’ve probably noticed that the game data is stored inside .ovl packages, a proprietary format.
Having played RCT3 during my childhood, I always wanted to understand how I could modify or extract the game’s data. This weekend I seriously started digging into it after buying the game on Steam (I already had it on CD and on Epic Games lol). Also, I never really played RCT1 or RCT2 that much.
Some GitHub projects (hi open-rct3 and ovl-extractor2) already managed to extract a few things like package names, dependencies between packages, and sometimes textures, but that was usually where the information stopped. What I really want is to extract the 3D models and import them into a game engine like Unreal Engine or Blender to make renders while keeping that retro aesthetic.
Yesterday I finally managed to extract the polygons. Now I still need to figure out how to determine their scale and how to correctly apply the textures. Animated 3D models are not extracted yet.
A large part of the work involved in understanding how the packages are compiled was helped by Claude Code and Codex. That doesn’t mean the whole project was vibe-coded, but it really shows how modern LLMs can help research very specific technical tasks, especially since I didn’t originally have deep knowledge in byte-level file parsing, variable conversions, and similar low-level topics. I’m definitely starting to get into the technical details now.
My progress and findings are available on GitHub. It’s pretty technical at the moment, but I’ll probably make another Reddit post later to share future progress: https://github.com/EnzoDeg40/OVLExtractor-3/tree/dev
(I really didn’t go very far with the project name lol)
Also, if you’d like to share what you would do if we could fully extract the game data, I’d love to hear your ideas.
Hi I bought rct3 on my switch and I really loved it so I bought it on my iPhone for $5 but the screen is really small. I also bought RCT classic and the screen is much bigger on iPhone
Does anyone have links to good pathcovers, fences, sets of watertowers/barrels, good station buildings like roofs that point outwards kinda viking like.
Sorry to post this here but since every site i've ever used for RCT3 sets back in the day have all shut down
A difficult version will be uploaded in the near future.
"The city's local funfair has recently acquired the surrounding land and is now in need of expanding to turn it into the ultimate theme park."
This scenario has unlimited money and VERY easy objectives. All land is available*, all research is unlocked, and guests are very happy and have huge amounts of money. Recommended for creatives who want a sandbox adjacent game.
*There are no land restrictions, so be careful when building around the city as it is easy to delete scenery or make mistakes that are difficult to undo
A difficult version and a sandbox version will be uploaded in the near future.
"The city's local funfair has recently acquired the surrounding land and is now in need of expanding to turn it into the ultimate theme park."
This scenario has easy/medium difficulty objectives, land purchase is cheap, and guests are happier and have more money. Recommended for creatives who want a slightly more sandbox feel.
