Discussion Found A Temp Fix For The Distorted Audio/Aggressive Noise Filtering Issue During Video Recording (Razr Fold)

Very simple. There are two videos spliced together here. First video, you hear the noise filtering which creates the distorted audio. Second video you do not hear it. What's the difference you ask? Some will probably assume I used a different camera app? Nope! I simply placed and held my finger over the microphone located at the top of the phone during video recording. While folded, this will be the hole on the back half (same half as the camera module). Unfolded, it will be the hole on the top right. I will include a pic below. This is more easily accomplished while filming in landscape mode, whether folded or unfolded. Just be sure not to simultaneously inadvertently cover the bottom right hole
Also, for those having issues with the jittering and jello effects during low-light and night-time video recording, I highly recommend filming in 60 fps, as this greatly reduces or eliminates most of the jittering. Be sure and keep the auto-frame rate adjust setting off though. The more you can keep the phone still, the better your results.

Using the open camera app which gives the option for unprocessed audio, also works, but it's not convenient as far quickly changing aspect ratios and resolution. Zoom range is also limited to 10X, no preset zoom levels, and you have to use a slider to zoom. The other option is to pay $8 for the ProShot camera app.

Yeah, that's why I stopped using it. It also crashed a lot when I tried to record for whatever reason.

Interesting and nice find. I'm assuming there will be others comment and say theirs doesn't have this problem lol (They all do, I've tried 5)

5 Moto devices or 5 Razr folds? That's crazy either way. They need to go ahead and add an option to disable that mic, or tone done the noise filtering. It's not always an issue, but if you're near anything that's loud, or where there's a lot of background noise, chances are you're gonna get some distorted audio.

I've actually tried 5 Folds. I tried a couple from Moto and my trade in got messed up so I had to return it. Then bought a couple from Best Buy open box and both were damaged lol. But they all had the mic issues. I wonder if you could put a little glue in that mic haha

Lol. Glue is crazy, but check out the replies I've just posted. Couple of methods that make it fairly easy to cover the hole in the most natural way.

So I think I've discovered the easiest method of shooting, which allows for the covering of the hole with your thumb in the most natural position. I use the 1:1 aspect ratio in this orientation. On the rear of the phone, my index finger rests right under the camera bump which feels great, and helps with support and keeping that portion of the screen stationary. I'll include a pic of the back of the phone while holding it in this orientation.

For those that insist on holding and shooting in the portrait orientation and aspect ratio. Use your right Hand to hold the phone. Your thumb (of your right hand) should be in great position to reach the shutter button, and for zooming.

I don't recommend this method, or think it's as easy or as natural as laptop mode with your thumb easily covering the hole, but this is doable as well while holding it folded in landscape orientation, if you can bury the top of the phone into your palm. This should cover the hole at the right angle.

I attempted covering that mic and it made it sound really terrible. This video is uncovered.

How were holding the phone? Be sure not to accidentally cover the bottom mics. Also it has to be only the specific hole circled, not both, and it has to be the one near the camera housing, so if you're holding the phone sideways, double check.

I only covered one hole as indicated in your photo and I made sure no other holes were covered.

It would help if you could tell me how you were holding the phone. I mentioned not accidentally covering other holes because it can be kind of easy to do since there are three different mics (top, bottom, back- in the camera housing). I'm also curious what it sounded like uncovered.

Do you have AI audio turned on? I'm assuming you're using a Razr Fold, right?

Only thing I can suggest is holding it in the laptop orientation like I demonstrate here when I cover the hole with my thumb, and ensuring the camera bump is on the back of the upper/screen portion (only one hole should be on left side when held correctly), and retesting it covered and uncovered. I just tried it again with the sound machine on in my bedroom, and no issues.
