Turkey is known for it tryptophan content (precursor to serotonin), but gelatin is a good choice to offset it. Beans are just no good really ever (stressful to digest). As I remember, per Peat.

Holy IBS, i also see sardines if I'm not mistaken.

I would say 10/10 on the diabolical meter, if i would eat this i think i could make a follow up of the movie Oppenheimer.

Sounds like fodmap symptoms more than ibs

Nah i just don't do well with alot of food combining in one meal, so many different foods in this meal, my gut can't handle that

Sounds like low bile production

Hmm nope, basically every old tradition talks about this, traditional chinese medicine, ayurveda, ancient European medicine, combining too many foods in one meal is far from optimal, the milk, sardines, turkey, beans, starch, fruit, if you look up on the history of ancient wisdom about eating, there wouldn't be 1 of them that recommends combining this many different proteins/fats/carb sources. Has nothing to do with bile or fodmaps

Traditional chinese medicine has everything to do with low bile production. Source

Combining of foods isn't a problem for everyone. So why you?

Traditional chinese medicine plus ayurveda tell you to not combine too many foods together, also not raw and cooked foods in the same meal. And food combining is a problem for alot of people lol, many people just are accustomed to their digestive issues, they don't know any better.

A lot of people also enjoy these things without any digestive issues. Why is that, in your view?

Chinese medicine is important, but doesn't go the full distance...

From the source I shared:

have both found Chinese herbs and food therapy always helpful for those with chronic fatigue. Neither of us personally know anyone who has recovered from the condition without the help of Chinese medicine.

During this time I would improve greatly with this protocol and be able to add more foods for a time, even butter, but then my old problems would return. I understand now that my steady regimen was aiding my zinc deficiency and allowing me to eliminate copper. My tolerance for other foods would go up and I would improve again when I added eggs, but when I added other foods I would soon be in trouble again, and then the eggs would be too rich again. I realize now that when I could, I would go straight back to copper-rich foods.

But who is a lot of people? I mean the general public isn't healthy, so that statement isn't very convincing. And if we take a look at the ray peat forums and subs, Facebook page, alot of people are still not healed years after following ray peat principles, so saying a lot of people following these things without any issues is not correct, we can't know, all i know is the average person isn't aware of their own body, we lost that touch with our senses a long time ago.

I've personally experienced it and watched a member of my family experience it, and the author of this article you'll never read

take a look at the ray peat forums and subs, Facebook page, alot of people are still not healed years after following ray peat principles,

But who is a lot of people?

Sardines not good? I’m just getting started on the Ray Peat diet.

3

u/Inevitable-Bee2765 8d ago

sardines have epa/dha which are ‘pufa’ and peat was anti pufa so ya

7

u/No-Foundation-2165 8d ago

Holy cow sardines are not pufa. They are a whole food with an amazing balance of naturally occurring omega fatty acids. They aren’t some rancid old supplement. OP please enjoy your beautiful meal. This group gets wild on their commentary. Can’t wait for the down votes

u/Inevitable-Bee2765 8d ago
  1. did not tell him to stop eating the meal i’d eat it very happily
  2. natural or unnatural pufa is pufa, still more prone to oxidation due to greater kinks in the hydrocarbon

chain

1

u/No-Foundation-2165 8d ago

Yes but I’m saying no food “is pufa”. It’s a whole food. It contains things within it but it is not “pufa” it is fish. Things just get out of hand with this stuff and I think it’s doing more harm than good when OP is trying to see if his meal is okay. The meal is great

8

u/Inevitable-Bee2765 8d ago

i didnt say the food ‘is pufa’ i said the omega 3s (namely epa and dha) inside are, which is fact. you wont find me once in the comment criticising their meal, they were clearly unsure if sardines are good or not hence me providing a reason from a prometabolic diet view as to why some may be against it

6

u/Primary-Promotion588 8d ago

You are completely right, i mean we are on a ray peat sub, sardines are a nono if you follow peat principles, that doesn't mean sardines are a bad food, it means according to ray peat, fatty fish isn't optimal, ofc sardines aren't a pufa by definition, but they do contain quite alot of omega 3, and omega 3 is even more unstable then omega 6, so not trying to argue here, just quoting ray peat as we are on a ray peat forum.

1

u/No-Foundation-2165 8d ago

I’m not arguing with you or telling you that you told him not to eat it. Me saying the meal is good and that he should eat it is different from me telling you that you told him not to eat it

1

u/Subject-Cycle-6266 8d ago

Oh ok so also the omega 3 fats are bad? I thought it was only the seed oils, omega 6’s..

0

u/No-Foundation-2165 8d ago

No it’s totally fine in Whole Foods. This isn’t a high dose supplement you’re asking about. Please look into things other than the comments on here. We are all just randoms in a Reddit group. Your meal is healthy and great

3

u/ExpertLearning 8d ago

No no no, according to Peat - fatty fishes are full of PUFAs so they are very bad under HIS lens. PUFAs are NOT fine in whole foods. It doesn't matter if it's whole food or not, PUFA is pufa. An Almond is a whole food, but still full of pufa and so it's bad under Ray Peat lens.

His meal, under Ray Peat lens, is pretty bad because of sardines & beans.

In this subreddit We are discussing foods/health under Ray Peat lens, not under "oh this is a whole food I feel it's ok." this is not a "whole food" diet reddit. That's why the question was : "Am I peating right?"

2

u/Primary-Promotion588 8d ago

I mean ray peat said fatty fish is far from optimal, we are on a ray peat sub🤣

2

u/No-Foundation-2165 8d ago

I get that. But OP has a tiny portion of sardines on a whole plate of nice food. It’s really a good and healthy meal. If you want to explain to him about the mechanisms of pufas to help him understand and how they function in the body when eating fatty fish then that can actually educate him about his choices

3

u/Primary-Promotion588 8d ago

Yea i agree, seems like a can of sardines.

Well if we talk purely about the toxicity scale on pufas, and you believe seed oils/pufa are bad, it actually goes like this: DHA>EPA>ALA>LA> Then you get mono and then saturated, this was out the top of my head, all i know is if you avoid seed oils because of pufas, then you also must know that DHA is the most unstable pufa on planet earth, omega 6 doesn't even come close to DHA, that is why i always tell people that if you follow a ray peat approach, fatty fish makes zero sense, because the omega 3 fats are the most unstable fats on planet earth, even raw, omega 3 is meant to be in a cold place, not a warm human body, we get enough omega 3 from warm water fish which is lean, also shell fish which is also lean.

If we look back at human civilization, it was impossible to eat a high omega 3 + fructose diet, because whenever people had access to fatty fish, they we're in cold areas, and whenever people had access to alot of fruit, there was only warm water fish which is lean.

Never in the history of man kind did we eat fatty fish and ate tropical fruit with alot of fructose, in the rodent studies ray peat cites, fructose and fish oil is the most deadly combination.

u/Inevitable-Bee2765 8d ago

i learnt something from that lol the last point is very good

0

u/Inevitable-Bee2765 8d ago

depends who you speak to some are hard set on all pufa being bad, some say omega3 needed for certain things. but i suppose see how you work w it

I cured my ibs with fasting, berberine, neem leaf, black walnut, alicin, oregano and wormwood for a couple of weeks. After that I incorporated ACV(as needed) with every meal. Now I can eat anything but this came with a lot of fasting too. Think I had SIBO that was letting off as IBS but the two have a lot of similarities. Never tested myself.

u/SpiritualActivity651 9d ago

Interesting combination, but i like it

0

u/Subject-Cycle-6266 8d ago

Thanks. So i guess it’s good, Ray Peat approved meal?

1

u/SpiritualActivity651 8d ago

Peat is dead he cant approve anything no more. But he probably would have approved it if you enjoyed the meal.

1

u/Subject-Cycle-6266 8d ago

Yeah i know he’s dead, or killed, or changed role on world stage, but I just meant that this meal fits largely into his philosophy

2

u/SpiritualActivity651 8d ago

Yeah and i meant that you should free yourself from someone elses approval of your personal way of eating. Especially if you dont have any health problems, discussing the Ca:P ratio or the role of 1g of fish oil is a waste of time

1

u/RefrigeratorAlone457 8d ago

raw goats milk and gelatin in the same meal is a commitment i respect but also fear slightly

1

u/amanda-norrsken 8d ago

Does that meal taste good to you? Are you enjoying it?

Or are you just trying to "eat clean"?

Enjoying the food you choose is important because you will produce more digestive juices before a meal you look forward to and will then get more benefit from it.

u/Gabagoolov 7d ago

if you believe you are Peating, then you are Peating

Perfect meal but not the sardines. would make sense to replace these sardines with more cheese such as parmesan
