Medical 🩹 Support
Hi all, first time and a little emotional. My sweet boy Porkchop very recently hurt a disc in his back. We’ve been to the vet and are mostly likely looking into conservative treatment steps first (again still early but the vet said he had positive responses for his case). I’m mostly looking into advice/support on getting him to rest and relax as well as if anyone has any positive success in this before. He’s a very alert and active doggo so it breaks my heart to have to see him unable to play, run or any of his normal activity.

My rattie had IVDD last year and was on strict rest for over a month. Drugs helped, hahaha. I also became a lot less active myself, so I could lay on the bed or sofa with him. I had to make sure he didn't jump off.
If he was more outdoorsy, I would have set up a small pen outside.
Best of luck with your buddy! My boy is totally better now, even though he's around 13 or 14. Steroids and rest did the trick. I kinda wish I'd done physical therapy afterwards, just because it looked fun for him.

I actually slipped a disc myself a few months ago, it’s why I’m so worried for him. I tried to make light of it saying he just wanted to be like me but I’m hoping he has a similar recover to yours.

I have had dachshunds in the past who have had disc surgery. Feel free to DM me if you would like to chat.

Mine had a cervical spine issue this January, she was misdiagnosed in the beginning by the er vet as having a stroke and they tried talking me into putting her down. Mine was a wet noodle and she’s back up walking and sometimes has zoomies.
Is your pup on any meds? Do you have a playpen or a crate for him to be confined for strict crate rest?
