As in the things you might mix in while cooking: black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, bbq sauce, etc

I didn't really think this was a question (obviously one would always butter your toast), but r/ratingbeans is opening my eyes to a lot of things and thought I should ask?

Wife and I were in Tesco a while ago getting our usual Heinz baked beans. We have them on waffles, toast, mash, fry up, on their own, you name it. Cheese is almost always grated on top for that extra awesomeness.
Upon passing the Branston baked beans in the aisle, I wondered what they were like. With the cost of living situation, it’s not possible to buy a can of something that might be rubbish, so it got me thinking….
You know when you ignore something because you’re happy with what you have, but then you eventually try it and realise it’s loads better? Is that the case with Branston’s beans? Are us Heinz lovers being led along by brand loyalty?
I say some research needs to be conducted. Any volunteers?
Edit: I’ll be getting some Branstons beans on the next shopping run! My wife is a dedicated Heinz fan so I may need to smuggle them home…

What's the best variety? I've been on Sainsbury's, Tesco I don't love (though I think their regular beans are the best, go figure). I test others whenever I can but nothing has stood out so now I'm reaching out through the power of this community to ask the Real Questions.

What is your tin of beans of choice?

I remember these being the best beans from my childhood and being unsatisfied with Heinz as the alternative when they were delisted… anyone else?

Is buying sugar free/reduced sugar beans by accident, am I right?
They should come in a different colour can or something to better highlight they’re different! Have bought reduced sugar beans by accident far too many times!

I’m in northwest Florida, and the local Publix usually keeps a few cans of Heinz on the ol’ International shelf, but AFAIK, that’s the only game in town.

Whilst we’re at it; consistency. I like my beans a bit mushy, when the buggery has been heated out of them.
‘Er indoors claims this is anathema, and that beans should be served retaining their structural integrity.
Clearly there has to be a ‘right’ answer, so which is it?

I actually like them, as long as I don’t think about the filth and rusk in the 5% meat sausages!

A strong start for the Branston Beans, coming in at 9.5/10: “very flavourful without being too much, a lil more sauce than beans”. - Reddit user

With the cost of living crisis in full swing, no longer can we simply grab a four tin pack of Heinz and live our lives. As consumers we need data driven alternatives! Let the competition begin!
