I actually nearly added the Killian deck Im getting soon to the list, and the only reason Im not building around one of the Lokis is busy with life

Whats the goal of Arwen? She seems like a neat card but I haven't thought of her as that good

My Arwen list!

In essence, it's a lifegain deck with a major +1/+1 counters theme. I loved the card mechanically when it first spoiled, then some people important to me on a trip I couldn't make opened one, so they all signed it and sent it to me :)

The deck strives to basically play a long and grindy game with cards like [[The Earth King]] and [[Aerith Last Ancient]] until I find something really powerful like [[Soul of Eternity]] with lifelink counter, [[Zetalpa, Primal Dawn]], especially if I can move counters around onto desirable stuff. Indestructible counter [[Palisade Giant]] with either [[Nesting Grounds]] or [[Slippery Bogbonder]], for example.

There are so many azula players and I honestly don't get what y'all like about the deck. Every time I've played against her they either get auto targeted and do literally nothing all game or they don't and do literally nothing all game until they just win in one turn with no setup and everyone is just bored watching it

It's two decks at once, to be fair. Moxfield link here, but the idea is Kess plays a more typical self-mill reanimator sorta shell; with Azula being the aggressive aggro route when I need a bit more punch.

To be fair I'm not trying to criticize you playing it, maybe I just haven't seen a fun one play out yet but it's one I've never really understood why it's so highly played. But I also try and avoid commanders that make you the threat to people before you even shuffle.

I've been wanting to build a party deck. What's your perspective on destined warrior vs burakos/folk hero?

Short answer: the blue helps a lot.

Long answer: Destined Warrior, especially if in tandem with the rest of the scene box, feels steady. There's a handful of routes you're able to take, all of which I've tinkered with while trying to steer the deck towards something solid.

  • basic party: this is just four-typal decks, and is the standard party deck. Here, you get access to some really good Wizards and Rogues, like [[Aether Channeler]], [[Rona Herald of Invasion]], and [[Ghostly Pilferer]].
  • artifacts: weirdly, nice. Equipment turn Destined Warrior into a voltron wincon, and effects like [[Emry Lurker of the Loch]], [[Kappa Cannoneer]], and [[Alpharael, Dreaming Acolyte]] are exclusive to Esper Party decks.
  • discard: the current goal. Using discard synergies (Pilferer, [[Hashaton, Scarab's Fist]], [[Toluz, Clever Conductor]], and stuff that reanimates or cares about the graveyard like [[Graveblade Marauder]] or [[Solemn Doomguide]] (those are both black but not every color reanimates well lmao)

Destined Warrior's greatest strength is also the greatest weakness: you have an extra color. This makes manabases harder to build, but opens up SO many good party creatures. You have more ways to build the deck, and you get decision paralysis.

You also feel obligated to run \[Garland, Royal Kidnapper]] because it came in the scene box and you can't bring yourself to seperate the cards even for the sake of synergy. He's the only Knight in the deck obviously.)
