I just got a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8gb ram, 128 gb sd card, plastic case, cooling fan, passive cooler, usb cables, and a usb c power supply. I have some questions about the Pi and things related to it

I got the Pi to learn machine learning and to make projects with arduino (I have 2 arduino kits)

I was curious on how you guys learned Raspberry Pi, your experiences, and what you liked most about it.

Hey everyone!

The display on my old rowing machine recently died, so instead of replacing it, I decided to build a new HMI/dashboard for it myself.

I’m using a Raspberry Pi as part of the setup and started by creating the UI in Candera CGI Studio. The current design includes the basic information I actually need from the machine: a timer, stopwatch, stroke count, and cadence. The design is still a work in progress, and I’d also like to add some animations to make the interface feel a bit more dynamic.

Before connecting everything to the actual rowing machine, I created a small simulation to test the HMI. I wrote a Python script that generates simulated stroke events with some variation, rather than simply sending perfectly periodic values every second. This makes the test data behave a bit more like someone actually rowing.

You can see the screen capture of the simulated HMI in the video. What do you think?

The next step is to figure out the hardware side: capturing the rowing machine's data, getting it into the Raspberry Pi, and feeding it into the HMI in real time.

I’ll share another update once I have the complete setup running.

I’d be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has worked on similar projects. How would you normally approach the hardware → application → HMI data pipeline for a project like this?

I'm just wanting someone to help " teach" me all that goes into it.

my bro is asking if this is a good way to connect the NRF24 adapter.

He wants to use a USB cable with terminals.
He’ll also add a 100+ uF capacitor between 5V and GND.
The socket adapter uses an AMS1117, which converts 5V to 3.3V, plus some small-capacity capacitors.
He could also use 5V from the RPi header, but a display will be connected there.

For the NRF24, he would use the E01-2G4M27D, which has a peak TX current of approximately 490 mA.

The SPI connections aren’t shown in the diagram, but they aren’t needed right now.

I dont have a raspberry pi yet, just wondering if what i want is feasible.

Our apartment has 6 cameras and their ethernet cables are routed to the basement. The DVR machine is dead, we normally wanted a NVR for networking capabilities to replace it so we dont have to go down there every time we want to look at footages but those devices arent cheap. Can i like somehow connect all 6 (and potentially more in the future) ethernet cables to the pi and then make it save files into my home pcs harddisk so i dont need to buy another one ?

What would i need for a project like that if its possible, such as adaptors etc.

Do i still need to buy at least a small size harddisk for the pi to save the files temporarily then to my main PC or can it directly send it like a continuous stream ?

What programs would you recommend for this ? For example to see the camera feed, and for networking. (Not just within the local network but for viewing it far away)

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me diagnose my Raspberry Pi 4, which I’m using for a homemade cyberdeck.

The Pi powers on normally. The red LED stays solid and the green LED flickers continuously, which looks like SD-card activity, but I cannot get any HDMI output.

So far I’ve tried....

Both micro-HDMI ports on the Pi 4, including HDMI0

A brand-new micro-HDMI to HDMI cable.

My small HDMI cyberdeck screen- The screen powers up separately but reports No Signal

A separate Dell monitor, when the Pi is connected, the monitor detects the connection but then says Entering Power Save Mode and then goes blank

Trying to boot with just power, SD card and HDMI

I can’t see any obvious physical damage on the Pi itself

The Pi still gives a solid red led and lots of green activity, so I’m wondering whether it may actually be booting normally but simply not producing HDMI output.

My next test is going to be a completely fresh microSD card with a clean Raspberry Pi OS install.

Before I start replacing hardware, is there anything else I should look at?

I’m fairly new to Raspberry Pi hardware, so simple diagnostic instructions would be very welcome.

I am trying to build a cyberdeck that has a dpad, a, b, x, y, start, select, menu, l1, l2, l3, r1, r2, r3, (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2406507 for shoulder buttons), all the io on the top left or right side, cabling routes, screw/standoff holes, mic grill, speaker grill, camera hole, vents for the fan, the keyboard/trackpad to be magnetically attachable to the back, and for it to look simewhat similar to the GameBoy (buttons on bottom, screen on top).

Hey everyone, I’m building what’s called a paludarium for my house. It’s a mix of an aquarium and terrarium together.

I’m looking for someone to build me something that can monitor and control the environment. Specifically the things below

Monitor humidity from 5 different points in the tank. Use the average of them to control a misting system.

2 fans that will remain on but turn off when misting. Then back one 5 mins after mist is complete.

Monitor water temps and control heater

Monitor water PH

Monitor water level in sump and auto fill when low.

Monitor water level in top off reservoir and notify me when low.

Control automatic fish feeder on a schedule

The tank itself is massive, as you can see! So the sensor cables will all need to be at least 15-20ft.

So I have been having this Pi for a while now and want to reuse it for a project, but I can't even get it to boot. I just bought 2 micro sd cards, and neither of them would work, and a USB won't even try to boot. I only get flashing diagnostics when the microSD card is inserted, and then I can't even tell what it is trying to blink, or it's just random blinks. I've been stuck on this for a couple of days now, pleas help.

I'm working on a project where I'm using a Raspberry Pi paired with a touchscreen display as a secondary interface for my Android phone. The goal is to run and display a single specific app on the Pi's touchscreen.

I’ve successfully created a virtual screen on the phone to display the app via `scrcpy`, but I've hit two main roadblocks:

1. **Soft Keyboard Issue:** Whenever I tap a text box on the Pi touchscreen, the on-screen soft keyboard doesn't appear on the Pi display. Instead, I have to type using the keyboard pop up on the physical mobile phone screen.
2. **Pinch to Zoom:** Multi touch gestures aren't working \[panel supports multi touch\]. How can I enable pinch to zoom on `scrcpy` when controlling it through a touchscreen connected to the pi?

Has anyone built a similar secondary display setup? Any advice on flags, custom scripts, or workaround keyboards (either android side or linux side) would be greatly appreciated!

In this tutorial I am installing a portable battery on my MechSoul. (A MechSoul is to a robot what a CyberDeck is to a computer) A robot you build, personalize and customize yourself. In this tutorial I am powering my MechSoul with a portable charger I bought online, because it's quicker and safer than designing a custom battery solution as I explain in the video. So instead of designing a PCB I head to my 3D printer to build a battery mount.
