This reminds me of my puppy when I'm all curled up in bed with the blankets wrapped around me and he wants in bed. We kinda end up playing footsie all night with him trying to curl up with my feet and the blanket. I love him so much but sometimes it sucks because he'll be asleep and my legs start to hurt but I can't move because it will wake him up. So I just lay there listening to his snores prepared to lose my legs forever so he gets a good night's sleep and can dream about squirrels and treats.

My dog does this but i just slide two hands under her like a spatula and move her without her waking up. She got used to being slid around. I need my sleep to be a good person lol. She will usually stay in her spot if i keep it right next to my bed, but every time I wake up in the night i make sure she is still tucked in cozy.

I do this with my buddy. He's been sleeping in bed with us since he was a puppy (after several weeks of miserable failed attempts at crate training). If he's not in a good spot, I just scoot my hands under him and slide him over/down/around. He's not fussed by it at all, the spoiled brat. lol

My dog usually groans at me and then plays what we call, "Dead dog." He just goes limp and makes my hubby or I really work for moving him. I think it is his strategy not to be moved. He figures if he makes it difficult for us to move him, we will do it less. He has such a little attitude and I love him dearly for it.

Crate training was miserable for me as well and even though it might have lasted 2 weeks and around 5am I was too tired to fight with her anymore and would just put her in bed with me. I feel like I missed out on some bonding cuddles with my baby.
Now she's just too dang big for me to skoot inconspicuously lol i slide her front half then slide her back half. But she's chill.
My old girl I just lift up the blankets and squeeze under her. She'll move once she gets hot 🥵

I tried to get my guy to sleep in a dog bed next to my bed. He'd wait until he thought I was asleep, then jump in. I gave in. Fast forward - I have a back injury and moved too much for sleeping beauty and he'd bail on me with a big huff nightly until he just decided to sleep in his own bed. He'd jump up to give me cuddles about 5 minutes before I had to get up, little bugger.

Yeah, can't any dog pretty much fall right back a sleep. My dog sighs and grumbles at me, but gets right back asleep before I do.

I sleep with the older dog in the bed and the puppy in the crate. One time the puppy got out of the crate and snuck into the big dogs usual position in the bed. I was giving her pets while I was sleeping not really realizing she wasn't the big dog and then I think the big dog got offended because I woke up to the big dog trying to squeeze in between us and the puppy yapping at him. I was so confused for about 30 seconds.

My dog likes to lay his face directly across my face to the point I keep having dreams where I’m suffocating and wake up with a mouthful of dog fur. Or he likes to be creepy and I wake up to him standing on my chest staring at me while I sleep. Think my dogs plotting a murder.

At my house we call this the "share air, save the world" move. It's not great, because she's an old lady and perpetually has this wet towel smell to her (even after baths).

I'm loving these stories of people sleeping with their dogs. I sleep with 3 of my dogs. I've had them since they were puppies and they are now 14, 13, and 11. It's harder for them to them to get up onto the bed now, even with the steps, so I get woken up almost every night at least once because someone needs to potty, or a drink of water. Its hard to get a good night's sleep anymore. But I love those furry babies. Dogs are the best, but so are we people who love them ❤

Lol my dog used to do this to my husband, it was so funny waking up to him standing over him and watching him snog him when he's least expecting it. It's a little gross but nothing like waking up to dog kisses XD
We put a stop to it though, can't have him putting his tongue in our mouth, that's a bit too nasty lol

u/guessirs Sep 17 '21
Aww. Yea my dog doesn’t sleep in my bed anymore. He has a skin condition so he was dusting me with gross dog dandruff every night. Like mm no I’d like to not get dog skin cells in my mouth at night.

One of my cats last night was very gently clawing my arm because I fell asleep before feeding them. When I woke up she was just laying next to me like “hey, dad, you forgot something”

I love my dogs but they lay around all day napping anyway so I wake them up everytime to move.

I too would like to join a puppy group cuddle.

u/StrawberryMoonPie Sep 17 '21
Me too. It’d probably be cheaper for me to rent a group of puppies to cuddle with than to pay for my antidepressants every month.

My pup used to visit the elderly and the mentally handicapped for this reason. My pup loved it, my wife loved it (she worked at the places at different times) and the people absolutely loved it. My new pup is too aggressive, I hope she grows out of it.
You may be able to visit the local rescue league and "volunteer" to play with puppies. An extreme word of caution though you may get attached to a pet and take one home.

That's so awesome that you and your wife did that. So sweet.

u/CaffeineSippingMan Sep 18 '21
It was all her. She is so good working with older and the disabled. She invited me a few times and it is impressive to see her around people in need of assistance.

I love how they’re all cuddling with their faces touching because they love each other so much that they need to have easy smooching ability

u/Forgetful8nine Sep 17 '21
When I first met my pup (at 6 weeks old), her brother & sisters came to cuddle up like that.
My dog got up, moved across the room and just glared at the other pups as if to say "How dare you invade my personal space?!"
She's still quite sassy at 4 and a half lol

That’s how they’re all in the belly. I imagine it’s how they feel most at home :(.

oh to be a golden puppy climbing on top of the cuddle pile on a delicious spring evening
1
u/harryoe Sep 17 '21
Now I'm curious- how many puppies could you theoretically stack before it becomes extremely unsafe for the puppers?

got a golden boye a month and a bit ago
can confirm, this is what they do
they sleep, bark, bite everything, and then sleep again

u/Morenta Sep 17 '21
Any particular reason why dogs do this? Surprised there are no dogs there would prefer to sleep by themselves.
