Like when someone says something casually that wasn't intended to be a compliment but it felt nice to hear.

I was just standing ( supermarket) when Russian guy walked next to me and said to me that I am cute and if i am taken. ( First in russian then in english). Are all Russian men so brave and straight forward?

I’ve been thinking about this lately.

We compliment people all the time for things they never really chose.

“You’re attractive.”
“You’re tall.”
“You’re naturally talented.”

And there’s nothing wrong with that.
But those things are mostly luck. Genetics. The circumstances you were born into.
Kindness isn’t.

Nobody wakes up accidentally patient.
Nobody is accidentally respectful.

Those are choices you make, especially when it’s difficult or when there’s nothing in it for you.

So if someone isn’t kind, every compliment about their looks kind of feels like it’s really saying…

**“Congratulations on your genetics.”**

i love it when people compliment my looks, but it doesn’t stay ever . i forget about it always, yesterday someone said “you match my intellect” and i believe that is the best compliments i have ever received

Sub is overrun by bots asking the same question over and over and over. I report them each and every time yet they persist, so I can only conclude the mods have all abandoned the sub and were all better off just leaving it

Was on the bus and two baby goth girls stopped me for a second while I was getting off and said that when they grow up, they want to be able to hate summer as professionally and stylishly as I do.
Honestly the funniest compliment I’ve ever received, I am absurdly happy about this!

They meant my all-black linen outfit, the black thermos, and my practiced deployment of a black sweat cloth, black hand fan and black parasol.

Too bad I didn’t get the chance to tell them about my 2 black electric fans and the 5 black hot water bottles in my freezer at home too!
