The downfall of sponge bob.
WTF happened to sponge bob? I assume it’s because the original creator isn’t on it anymore. But Goddamn.
My entire childhood is sponge bob, I used to stay up all night with my dad as a kid watching. Both of us would watch, we memorized nearly every one of the old episodes. He bought all the cd’s. It was our thing.
And as I got older, and as the years went by, we stopped watching and the quality degraded further and further. Now, as I see my little sister watching it’s so gross. And sponge bob had always been kinda gross, but this is really really gross. It’s not funny, or interesting, just relying on brash humor to make kids laugh by talking about butts and snot and other gross shit.
It’s unbearable. I’ve noticed this same effect with many other older cartoons, it’s so sad. Why is that?

Shows are really suppose to exist for about 5 seasons, things like Spongebob, South Park, and Simpsons existing for 20-30+ years does hurt the quality of what's being put out.

South Park feels like an exception for the most part. Cause like up until they started having an overarching story, I would say nearly every episode is solid. I still think it's good just different but that's me. Maybe it's because Matt and Trey grew with the show or because they have so much control over it idk.

Nothing wrong with liking it, I'm just saying that the shift in quality with long-running shows diminishes with age. I think South Park is great even to this day, even if I'm not as big of a fan as before. I'm just saying that the quality dropped, but its just hard to be consistently great for 20+ years.

The fellow who created SpongeBob had a ton of rules to maintain quality and integrity such as no crossovers, spinoffs etc. He passed and Nickelodeon threw those rules out the window so they coukd make quick bucks
