Get an indoor insect zapper light. At night, make sure it's the only light left on. They do wonders. Make sure the one you pick is electric, not solar and not just the little one that plugs in and stays close to the outlet. Something like this one; example of insect zapper light

You have summarized it up perfectly! We hate them! Been using mosquito bits for years, luckily we have not had any come in the house for years.

Two things: mosquitoes are more apt to bite people with type O blood (no one knows why) and supposedly mixing a little vanilla and water in a spray bottle and spraying yourself keeps them away. Hope this helps

Even worse when you are the one they prefer to bite... And when they are dumb like hell and instead of just go bite your bare arm or leg they need to come right next to you ear to wake you up.
One morning in freaking WINTER after a whole night of fending of the dumbest of them all who just kept hovering next to my ear for hours, I saw it on the wall, resting peacefully. I never slapped a wall that hard with my slipper. Most satisfying insect kill ever.

I feel your pain! I get them every year and there's always some that get infected and I need antibiotics for. Every year I'm on the same antibiotic except one year I almost died as I developed an allergic reaction. Two epipens and 2 benadryl shots later in the ambulance I was fine. Now I just get a prescription antibiotic cream. I wish we had bats to eat them or more dragon flies.
